Congrats on the pick-up OP! There were many, many, many dial variations. I have seen that dial quite a few times actually.

Ah okay, that's great to hear. I was told it's from the 70s but will find out for sure when I send it for a service. Thanks for confirming.

The dial is much earlier than the 1970s. If the serial number between the lugs is from the 1970s then the dial has been swapped out. Lucking, there are many dials available that are proper to the 1970s.

Yip. So many variants out there in OysterDate world ....
For me, the variety is one of the great things about OysterDates (and OP Dates too). So many different dial and hands variations.
Here I see a watch from circa 1981 (6.6m serial number). That probably explains the nice fat lugs, it hasn't taken too many beatings on the polishing wheel as seen on many older watches. The dial ... with that style of applied markers and coronet I'm also thinking late 50s' / early 60s', earlier than the case anyway. The hands .... I might also expect to see dauphine / dagger style hands with that dial, rather than the stick hands we see in the pic All that said, there are scores of different dial and hand combinations seen on old Rolex watches where the reference had a long production. Might be an AOK dial and hands match, is certainly a good looking watch anyway. What's the case reference number between the lugs at 12:00 o'clock ? |
