1999 model seadweller
Your help is greatly appreciated. I'm considering buying this watch from a local seller. Buying a used rolex is a little scary (for obvious reasons). A couple of questions. Does this watch look authentic? Roughly how much would servicing cost? What is a fair value for the watch? Watch looks about 85% by TZ standards.

Looks okay to me at a glance but not the best picture. One nowadays cannot tell for sure what is real or replica without opening the caseback. I would try posting Want To Buy a Sea Dweller on this forum. I am sure there is one out there for sale just post in the classified section. I am sure you will not get burned on this forum. I am not implying you will get burned elsewhere either but one can never be too careful.
As for servicing has it ever been serviced? It is just over 10 years old it should be in the neighborhood of $650-800.00 but have seen bills into the 1,200’s so factor that into your purchase price. If it is a replica I believe the watch will be confiscated by any respectable watchmaker. As for a price I am not sure what they go for not a sea dweller conosur. |

Does the "Swiss" at the bottom look ok? Looks different for some reason.

I just bought another SeaDweller today, and interestingly it is an A-Serial bought new Aug 2000. I bought it from a reputable seller on TZ and paid between $3000 - $3500. It was in similar condition at 85%ish. I thought this information might help you in your decision.

Had the watch you bought been recently serviced?

Some of the fakes are so authentic looking that it's impossible to tell without looking inside. You CANNOT tell from a photo and you CANNOT be 100% sure unless you examine the movement inside.

Good to know. I agree the fakes look very very convincing these days. I've looked over a lot of the information on spotting fakes by appearance and the devil is certainly in the details.
