First Rolex Purchase - GMT BLNR
The story goes - I’ve been fortunate enough that my first Rolex was gifted to me, a beautiful Z Blue Milgauss. Nonetheless, something in me felt as if I needed to accomplish the acquisition of one of these pieces on my own. I desired a Pepsi or Batman as I wanted something a little more sporty but wanted to avoid the typical SubC (although truth be told, all SS models are so hard to find right now, I would have taken that as well).
I approached my family AD with said request for GMT and was laughed at because she knew the wait list to get it was too long, despite my family’s history of purchasing multiple watches every year. I had one option if I wanted to purchase it through this family AD, which was to pay a premium (~$13k OTD) for a Batman. Obviously this is frowned upon in the Rolex world but a completely different topic and to be frank, this AD has given my family such great deals historically that I wasn’t too surprised - they need to make their money some how. Regardless, I went about my way on how to obtain this watch in the beginning of November of this year. I randomly stopped by my a local AD and left my name to be put on a “list” for both desired watches. I recently saw a post on TRF about how my local AD recently got in a shipment. I dropped by during lunch one day and spoke to a SA who took my name last time I dropped by the store randomly. I kind of took a light jab at her, joking that I was expecting to get a call from her given that she had gotten a new shipment in. She must have lost my papers or something because she could never find my file but I gave her back my information and told her that I understood these are hard models to find so no expectations. We had been in communication for a few days and I told her I was going to drop by but then I fell ill and never came. We kept talking about watches she had in stock (YM 40 platinum, Daytona Platinum, SD43) as I told her there might be stuff my family is interested in, but nothing hit the mark. I eventually went in to see her and I gave her the background about my family and the family AD. I mentioned to her that it would be very difficult for us to buy any “normal” Rolex from her as I would typically be able to get a great discount from my family AD and that I never would want to only “snipe” the rare models from her at MSRP. I even gave her actual numbers from my family AD regarding pricing for Batman. I was very blunt with it and asked her what’s the best approach? She didn’t know but understood my predicament. And then she asked me if I would buy a Batman right now if she could keep the warranty card for three months. I said of course! And now here we are! She never held the warranty card from me as she was just testing me to see if I would take it without the card to protect against flipping. She also mentioned that this the first time she’s ever sold someone a high demand model without having previously purchased something. So thank you “J” for taking a chance on me, I’ll be forever grateful and forever a customer. If anyone looking for a SS/gold Sub or Daytona and you are in LA, feel free to reach out and I’ll refer you. Thanks all for reading! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Congrats! Wear it in a good health.
But how can you call them the "family AD", if they ask you for a premium? And it's not even a Daytona or a 5711. They surely don't sound like a good "family AD". |

My family has probably purchased over 15 watches from this AD but only has a relationship with the manager. The owner of the store is kind of very well known and saves the popular watches for his closest friends. But my mom is good friends with them still - she got 25% off her last purchase on $21k MSRP diamond bezel DJ. I consider them a family AD because my family almost shops exclusively through them and is getting discounts nobody else would really get. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
