AD is being a little stubbon. Phone Order??
I bought from this guy before... and this is my second watch. So I want to buy a watch today via phone order before the price increases. He insisted that there is a lot of verification/steps to do phone orders.
He says that he would need Rolex's loss and prevention to approve my payment before it gets charged.. Obviously.. tmr is New years so they wont open and it will take 1-2 business days to be approved. Is he lying to me? I dont understand how after I give you my credit card and charge it or asked to be approved on the 31st.. Should'nt I be locked in for the MSRP as of the 31st of Dec? before the price increase? |

Cash is king. Why not wire it against a invoice or purchase receipt? (Assuming they have it in stock...)
I think the reason sounds kind of bogus, but taking large CC payments from an unknown customer is a huge risk for stores. CC is great for consumers, horrible as the merchant. Charge back disputes are no fun, and money instantly gets pulled while the dispute is being handled. Plus it costs extra if the card was not physically present at sale and done over internet or phone (both different rates). So...long story short, why would the store want to bother with the phone order if it's likely to be sold to a walk in customer anyways. Call their bluff, offer to wire, and that will tell you if they want to sell or not. |

Not sure of the details here. If they have the watch in stock then I see no reason why they can’t charge your credit card and let you pick it up later, bankwire or cash is irrelevant. On the other hand if you’re asking them to special order a watch for you that will not come in until after the new year there’s no way they’re going to charge you “last year’s price” when they’re going to have to pay the new invoice price for it. The Rolex USA “approval” sounds bogus but it could be that they do have to approve that piece for the dealer and I would bet there’s no one sitting in New York on NYE to make that call.

that is true- however it takes less than an hour to complete via phone.
You can always stop by and do a face to face transaction..

So you want to be "locked-in" at the old price, while the Dealer will need to pay the new cost?

Sorry, he received the watch in mid-Dec. and the watch is in stock. He just states that he cant lock in the price since it takes 1-2 days for the transaction to get approved.. which doesnt make sense.

Yes and no... yes, your credit card payment should be approved instantaneously, however it sounds like Rolex has a process for ADs to take payments over the phone. I wouldn’t be surprised this is an effort to deter fraud and encourage face to face transactions. Personally, I don’t have a problem with them doing this if it means protecting their customers or suspected victims of fraud. If this is what you wanted to do - why did you wait until literally the last minute? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If they need to order it in, then it would almost always sell for the higher price and most never give you a lock on the price.

The AD is going to pay new pricing for a replacement whether he sold it to you a month ago or next week.
Even if his approval story made sense, they can and should sell at today's price if the sale is started today. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

I'd walk. I refuse to fight with people that don't act like they want my business. I'd shop elsewhere. After all it's a watch, not some life saving drug you need to survive.

Now that you have established the watch is in stock, I agree the dealer is blowing smoke so they can charge you the new price. RolexUSA would be in no way involved in an individual dealer’s credit card transactions, which are of course immediately approved or declined.

I never heard of this. I make all my orders over the phone with my AD because he is a hour drive. It normally takes minutes, even if i have to order watch.

Best advice I've read in a long time. I don't have this issue with my AD, but car dealers, audio equipment....

My friend and fellow TRFer
You are dealing with the Rolex watch company and a Rolex Authorized Agent My eyes have seen and my ears have heard a myriad of crazy sale practices Do not let it bother you...if you and me were operating our business they way they do ? ....we would have been homeless in the streets. |

This is nonsense. Rolex HQ USA doesn't have a "loss prevention" department. Tell him "WTF?"
When the watch ends up at the AD, it is the AD's responsibility entirely. If the AD gets scammed by fake notes or a fraudulent card, there's no help from Rolex HQ. That bill goes entirely on the AD's account. If the AD knows who you are, and you've bought a watch before, then they should be able to honour a deal pre-hike IF they allow for phone-orders. Certain ADs don't take payment over phone, but if you know this AD has taken phone-orders before, then it's all a fart in a glass. |

So there is a 3 day waiting period to buy a watch now? I guess at least you can still buy one with a large power reserve and automatic movement.
