More dressy from my perspective.

Because of the oyster bracelet and it's proportions it definitely can appear sporty. It isn't a thick watch so it fits easily under the cuff. The polished center links definitely gives it a nod to the dressy side.

datejust II stainless

Datejust is no dress watch by definition. In any of its iterations.

That being said, wear it however you want. I wear mine with jeans, shorts, 5mm diving suits, just no speedos

The II is closer to a sports watch than a dress watch in my opinion. If you want the Datejust line maybe consider the 36mm.

No. To me, a true dress watch is on a leather strap.

It’s not a true dress watch but with the fluted bezel and a TT, dresses up or down with attire. Looks dressier with a suit, more casual with jeans.

Dress casual watch. The DJII is much thicker and sportier than the DJ41. The oyster bracelet is also on the sport side.

Mind you, I think it is a very classy dress casual watch but not entirely a dress watch. I am one that does not think a dress watch must be on a leather band - it can be on bracelet too.

It's definitely on the dressier end of the spectrum. TT is fantastic by the way.

For me the SS and TT DJII both are casual watches.

Seems like we all have a different definition of dress vs. casual. Casual for me is sweaters, t-shirts, and polos. Botton-downs and up are dress. No?

If you want a "dress watch", visit the Cellini line.

I share your definition for clothes but not regarding the "issue": DJII. Certainly looking at it's size you can see IMHO these references more as a casual/sports-watches.

OP

Many define a dress watch as a more dainty time piece, more elegant if you will. Thinner, leather strap uncluttered dial etc etc.

Having said that, a DJ could be considered more dressy than let’s say a sub or GMT which by definition are considered tool watches.

With regards the DJ2, it’s a fantastic reference, but I am biased as I own three of them. I use a TT Ivory Dial DJ2 as my dress watch, but my more daily casual is the fluted blue dialed DJ2.

The beauty of the DJ2 is the baton dial variants lend themselves more to the sporty side of DJ’s. To me they are the modern day versions of the ‘wide boy’ DJ’s from the ‘70’s which makes them unique in many ways.

You could certainly wear one for any occasion particularly a fluted bezel version which would both be casual and sporty in appearance but certainly wouldn’t look out of place in a tux.

It depends on the bezel / bracelet and dial combination.
