Thoughts.

Hi Guys and Girls,

First and foremost I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I hope all had a wonderful time this Holiday season with family and friends. It was quite the year for me as well as others that I sure hope doesn’t repeat itself. Cheers and on to better times.

I would like some input. I have been considering selling my 1675 Rootbeer to help fund the purchase of a 16718 with Oyster Bracelet Box and etc Complete set. Will I regret this? Anyone want to share their experience doing the exact same thing?

Thank you
John

I think this is really a question that only you can answer, it's entirely a matter of personal taste. All I can do is ask you some questions to put things into context.

How do you wear your 1675 and how you intend to wear the 16718? Daily wear pieces? Special occasions? Safe queens? Neither is a particularly versatile watch IMO, and I don't find that I wear my RB 1675 very often for that reason. But I think the 16718 is probably even less versatile than the 1675. Similarly, while I understand that this is probably not your major concern, PM and TT sport models are not as widely appreciated as SS sport models, and their values have not risen as strongly. I would expect this trend to continue, just my subjective opinion. A full-set in great condition is never a bad investment, but I wouldn't go into it with the idea that it's going to rise in value substantially. The 16718 market is just too small.

All that said, if you love the 16718 and would get more pleasure from it than from the 1675, you should do it.

Hi. I am not looking for it to rise in price, although it would be nice but that’s not my reason and or one of my reasons for buying it. I do wear my 1675 daily, not for its GMT purpose, just because I enjoy it and it’s a reminder of my hard work. I don’t plan on making it a Safe Queen although it may not be worn as much as my stainless steel counterpart. I agree that the market is small for them and there are plenty of them out there, just not plenty of buyers.

Thanks.

It’s taken me a while to realise what I really like and what I want and will enjoy wearing. Asking others is just not a sensible thing to do as the opinion of others will eventually become irrelevant. The only relevant opinion is whether a piece you want to purchase/trade is a good piece with correct parts.

I’ve had a bunch of root beer 1675/3, 1675/8, 16808, and 16718. For me, the sapphire crystal (5 digit) models left me cold. Only the plexi nipple dial models remain in my collection. Although, having the all gold nipple dial plus the 2 tone nipple dial gmt is staring to feel a little redundant so I may sell the 2 tone. But I wouldn’t trade it to fund a sapphire model.

I say, go for it. If that's what you want - go for it! You can always find another root beer if you change your mind later.

Very different watch with the sapphire crystal. One watch feels vintage and the other modern.

I wouldn’t do it personally but each to their own.

Ok Guys,

Here it is in a nut shell.

The 16718 which is pictured here

I can get for about 16500, but then comes trying to sell my watch thru various avenues hoping to get as much as I can. It comes with Papers, but notice the second hand is missing it’s tritium. The seller doesn’t know why and said they never noticed it. ? Really. Everything but that seems good. It is from 1993 and service history is unknown.

The other watch I am considering is a 16753. It is coming from a reputable watch dealer. Here is a photo

This here is almost 20,000. I would use my watch as a partial trade.

Thoughts are appreciated.

Thank you

John.

PS Yes John a Two Tone is achievable after my kids go and get thru college.

That rusty dial damage on the 16753 above would be an absolute deal-breaker, to speak nothing of the price.

Agreed. I think that dial is horrible in my opinion. Nowadays, damage is dressed up as "patina" and exotically labeled.

I'd pass on both. Keep searching. The "one" is out there.

What does your 1675 look like?

The 1993 above seems interesting from th blurry pic, the tritium in the second hand is no big deal.

The 16753’s dial is too roached for that asking price

The Rootbeer on the leather strap is the one you're thinking of selling? You're having a brain fart. Put the deal on the floor and step away.

Thank us later.

Your current watch appears to be the best of the three pics.

I agree, your current watch is the best of the three! The gold 1675 has dial issues.

Clear as day. Eternal regret. Your current Rootbeer is stunning, and the dial on the potential Rootbeer purchase is trashed. The black dial one is just meh. If you must, save up your pennies for a new purchase, but don't sell THAT for THAT.

Come on, now. You're having some sort of an episode. Don't do anything silly.

I agree. The dial on the other root beer isn’t good patina, it’s just bad, other is avg and missing sec hand lume. You would have a hard time getting value for either, if you sell or trade them down the road. If you want to switch it up, maybe source a bracelet for yours?

It's staying for now. I busted out all my inserts and changed my mind and insert for the time being. I love these Fattys.

Funny for the longest time I could never get my Inserts to fit in these bezels and after talking to my brother Mikey and with his help somehow without any effort at ALL they went in .

I think its a sign from my little Bro. So Ya it's staying.

Love ya Mikey.

I remember I use to tell him all the time to Buy a Rolex and join the club, but he was addicted to investing in the Market and never got around to it.

I think you made the right call IMHO. Your Root beer is the best looking of the 3 you showed us far and away!

Yeah, your current 1675 is the right answer, period. Wait for the right watch to come along before you switch. Neither of the two you posted are right.

Acrylic is the best.

This was the right decision. :)

Love your current watch (way better dial than the lava dial RB; way more character than the 16718).
