Is this normal - lume flaking/degrading in early T-dial 16610 Sub?
I took my early T-dial 16610 Sub out of the box after a few weeks of not wearing it, and notice the lume on the minutes hand had started to flake off.
I recognize its a 25-30 year old watch, but still fairly modern relatively, so I was very suprised and bummed to see this. The watch is otherwise in excellent condition, so it is not from use or care. Watch was purchased from an AD only a few months ago with a warranty. Deciding if I should embrace this "patina", or perhaps look to return/exchange. I definitely do not want the hands swapped, but a big reason I bought this piece was because of the great condition and Tritium dial, and this sort of mars it for me. Is this normal for this age and model of Sub? Should I just embrace this? |

Sometimes lume ages and cracks.
If you like the watch then there are several places that could stabilize the lume, or fill it and color-match. Nothing wrong with changing the hands either, if you can source other tritium hands in good condition, or your watchmaker can. I assume that you are talking about not wanting modern Luminova hands installed, but there is something to be said for a watch that is functional as well. I think that you should do something because the crack could degrade further and then you would need a full cleaning to get the particles out of the movement.
