Oyster Perpetual 114200 and new caliber
Good morning guys! For some time i would have been willing to buy a 34mm OP, ref. 114200 green dial but i'm blocked by the fact that it has the old caliber 3130 and sooner or later it will be replaced with the new, presumably 3230. When do you think the Oyster Perpetual will receive the caliber update?
Currently here in Italy the OP is easily and at a discount and i like it very much but i would be sorry to buy today a watch that would soon have a better caliber... |

How much « better » will a new caliber be if the current OP (I assume you buy it new) will be spec’d at +/- 2 spd?

This morning i went to AD to try it again. I like it a lot but i have doubts about the caliber. At this point i don't know whether to take it now or wait for Basel...

The 31×× has proved its reliability since 1989. The 32×× still has plenty of issues.
I would go for it, 'old' caliber or not. |

I think there is no rationale with your doubts about the 3130 calibre. If you like the watch, just buy it.

Has to agree Bas new is not always better give the 32 a few more production years then perhaps it will equal the 31.

Yes, it will need time to properly improve the 32×× so that the issues are fixed. It seems that there's more going on than the lubrication issue on the seconds wheel pivot.

Go for it !
I had the same concerns as you last December when I was thinking of getting a black OP 34. Forum members convinced me to buy it and so I did. |

I understand you’re concern/thought process, there was a time when I thought like that too. But although new movements aren’t made every year or two like new cell phones are, Rolex will probably update the 3230 at one point too Plus, chances are, when the OP is released with the new movement, it might come with a price increase (unless it was increased at the beginning of the year with other watches as well) Lastly the new movement will probably bring different dial options, maybe a change to the bracelet, who knows So THAT might be worth waiting for, but! If there is a watch you love right now, it might not exist when the new movement takes over Just something to think about |

I have the same hesitation - but not about the movement.
Heading to pick up a OP 39mm Rhodium tomorrow - worried that a new dial colour that I love will be launched at Basel (that I love even more). That's just life... some of us think this way, others don't look back. I'm buying that watch tomorrow and if there is a colour I like more, I'll confront that fear when it happens new year new me |

nobody knows when each Rolex model will be replaced , eventually with the new caliber. The only certitude is that it will occur in Basel show ... but for the year you can only guess. So don't ask such a question , just wait for next Basel if you want 3230 absolutely , or buy immediately if you like it . That's your choice ... |

Here in Italy it has a price list of 4,800 euro.
My AD, after exhausting negotiations... ... usually gives me a 15% discount. Once it was easy to have even 20% now i have to settle for 15... Quote:
The fact that with the 3230 would cost more would not be a problem in reality, as i said above i would still have a discount. But the speech you make about the dial is absolutely right. I would feel like a real idiot if after waiting for the new caliber there was no longer the green I like in the 34 size that I like best! Your post is very convincing Quote:
Perfect dial on perfect case Congratulations for your If the schoolboy post had almost convinced me, your photo is pushing me to my AD Thanks also to all the other guys that i haven't quoted, you gave me excellent advice |

Nice to see you are open for advice, especially if it comes from very knowledgable members i.e. Searchart, who is our forums "own" official RSC watchmaker.
My 2 cents is the fact that throughout all the movement upgrades have never impacted demand for certain watches or improved collectability. Which movement is fitted is basically irrelevant. It's all about dial or bezel. Except for perhaps the last series GMT 16710 or Explorer II fitted with a 3186 instead of 3185 movement in combination with a slightly different dial. These command a premium. Get the Olive green

that green dial is so nice, but I need date function. I might buy date 34mm model or 31mm
but not in the near future. is 31mm can be good on man? |

You were fantastic, thank you very much The reason that led me to think of waiting for the new caliber is not economic, i am not looking for revaluations. In the collection i already have a 3130 in a Submariner 14060M and i would have liked to differentiate even if you are right, for the most part the relevant differences are on rings, dials, bracelets.... I am a maniac! Thanks also to you for the advice, i am increasingly convinced to take it now for fear of not finding it with green when they update the caliber... No in my opinion, too small. The first size for men is 34 mm, and only if you have a pulse up to 17... otherwise starting from 36 mm |

I would go with the 3130 caliber watch. As others have mentioned the 32xx series is far from perfected. IMO a shorter power reserve isn't as big of a downside on a time only watch.

In this month I will begin to reason with my Ad, i have decided! When it arrives as well as to present it i will put a lot of photos here too, promise! If you happen to see it try it in the green dial, you will be fascinated. Especially in natural light it has beautiful reflections Inviato dal mio iPhone utilizzando Tapatalk |
