I'm considering trading my OP39 for an Explorer..Thoughts?

I recently picked up a white dial OP39. It's a beautiful watch but I keep getting drawn back to the Explorer. I find myself questioning the 39mm size of the dial- it just seems too big for such monochrome dial. I have the opportunity to trade this OP for a D serial Explorer 114270. Am I crazy?? Thoughts?

Well I think it's clear you think the Oyster perp is lacking and you like the explorer better. Nothing crazy about that. If the explorer sings to you and you have the opportunity to do the trade then do it. Sometimes you shouldn't overthink things in life.

The white OP gets a lot of love -- seems to be a favourite and a 'classic'.
I am trying to track down a Rhodium 39mm OP at the moment as I find the white and the black OP just too bland. You mentioned the monochrome dial, do you think if you had the rhodium or blue (or dare I say, grape) you'd feel different?

I think the Rhodium and other colors are beautiful watches, just not for me. I did have an OP36 with the silver Arabic dial that I regrettably flipped and that was a great watch.

Ah that's a shame!
You know you love the OP36 - why not just go with that? You might get the D explorer and feel the same way as you do about the 39mm OP?

Definitely. Explorer is a better looking watch to me. I only preferred sports watches.

Get into what you like. Who cares what everyone else wants. I'd happily wear either.

Ex1 full lume is an great watch. It's just about as perfect as a zero six zero submariner.

Of course it gets even better when you consider the 3/6/9 and upside down triangle meanings.

I was just asking opinions to see what others thought. Both are great watches.

Sounds like you dig the 36mm size and you can't go wrong with Exp1. I would go for it and you won't look back. Classic proportions and rich history.

What do you mean by this exactly? The markers have special meanings?

Not crazy - if that's what you want, go for it!
I've never been an Explorer fan myself, but it'd be boring if we all liked the same thing :)

A monochrome dial well actually look smaller than a white dial, like the OP 39 you have now. That being said the 214270 is a solid choice especially if you like your OP but want something that looks a little bit more discreet\compact. In my experience though, I got bored with the Explorer after a few months, you start to miss the intricacies of a bezel, date, etc. Just having the time alone I found to be underwhelming after a while.

A trade would be awesome especially because you're scared that it might wear big - the black of the 214270 definitely will wear smaller!

Since you just picked it up recently, I would hold trading it off so soon. Why not wear it and enjoy it for a while longer and if you care nothing for the watch still then maybe it wasn’t the right buy and trading it would make sense.

I think this is very personal, you need to keep the one you like the most, I love both of the watches, but the 39 size, on my wrist fits better...

I’m going to look at the Explorer but that’s solid advice

If you have an itch for an explorer. An OP isn’t going to scratch it. I’ve tried. Circled back thrice to an explorer

I'm not sure I would trade this for a 114270. I personally would trade toward the purchase of a 214270 MK2.

This way you're getting a modern reference and a fully lumed and matte dial.
