Blue SkyD vs. Panda Daytona

If you had the option to purchase either the blue dial Sky Dweller or the ceramic Daytona white dial which would you choose and why?

Having said that, while the white Daytona is certainly beautiful, I actually prefer the black Daytona.

Sky Dweller all day every day....Daytona is too small at 40MM.

Daytona dial is too busy, cluttered....the watch is overrated...it's too small at 40MM...at it looks like something a Real Housewife would be wearing. Skip the Daytona.

Both are special watches, but I prefer the skydweller due to my wrist size.

IMHO...

Daytona because:
It’s a Daytona
Wears great in the wrist
Size is just right
High resale value
It is the perfect watch

Skydweller is a no for me:
It’s awkwardly large
It’s sits like a dinner plate on my wrist
The dial is a complete mess (off center second time zone + cyclops = messy)
I know what “month” it is and don’t need an annual calendar
If there was no Rolex name on the watch most people wouldn’t give it a second thought (I know I don’t)

SkyD over Daytona, Daytona plusses: Internet hyperbole, minuses: Too small for 7.5 wrist), illegible no date. Chrono to me is 100 useless.

SkyD plusses: greater wrist presence annual calendar requiring date change only once a year. Advanced movement


Take the hype and resale $ out and 90% of appeal is gone from the Daytona.

I only own one Rolex, and that's a blue Sky Dweller. I bought it because of the movement which, as we know, is unique in many respects - and yet simplicity itself to operate. The Daytona is too small and fussy for my tastes.

daytona without a doubt - Sky D is too chunky and the fluted bezel is to bling for my liking - obviously the complication is excellent

Super useful complication.
Amazing dial color / legibility
Phenomenal Presence due to the "modern" 42mm size

SkyDweller, while I get that the Daytona has a history and therefore a certain value to many, it doesn’t appeal to me whatsoever, especially not in SS

Objectively the most significant difference might be the size, the Daytona will fit everyone, while the SkyDweller requires a certain wrist size

Love them both for looks, owned both. SkyDweller got absolutely no wrist time due to being too large and after 12 months it has now gone (I am 6’2’’ and 20 pounds). Daytona is sublime on the wrist.

I traded in my blue SkyD towards a Daytona. Not a white dial however that would be my choice in this hypothetical example. Same reason many have said; the SkyD is just too large for me.

Interesting comments given that the Daytona’s dial, if anything is a mess. Don’t need the annual calendar? Do you need three Off center sub dials and two buttons dedicated to timing?

After trying on a Skydweller I realised it was a fat large watch. I have smaller wrists so Daytona would be my choice all day.

Sky Dweller. The sub dials on the Daytona are too small to be usefully visible for me and it has no date function. I don't need to calculate speed and lap times. But I do travel in multiple time zones and use a reference time function several times a year. I also frequently work at home with remote clients in different time zones.

The Daytona is a fantastic design. Every time I see an advert for one (which is odd, since they are essentially unavailable to the likes of me) I can't help being struck by how achingly stylish and cool it looks in just about any combination of colours and materials. It would look great on my wrist but it might as well be an OP for all the use I would get out of it.

My go to chrono is the Tag Heuer Carrera. At 43mm and with a date window, I can actually see it clearly enough to use it. And it has a rather fetching shimmery blue sapphire that plays with the dial in different lighting. It comes in handy when I'm cooking and have multiple stuff on the go. Or for when I need to time a parking slot down to the last second! And it looks good.

I want both because all my Rolex watches are black face. At 40mm they fit me perfectly and have no problem reading the dials. The black face daytona wore tiny on my average size wrist and the dial looked like the black lagoon. Would need 2.0 magnifiers to tell the time.

Tried my friend's blue SkyD, fit perfect and very legible. My 42mm vintage speedie fits fine and is very readable. The white Daytona is much more legible to me but still a bit of a strain to read but at least I can tell what time it is with it.

If you think the new daytonas are hard to read try on any 4 digit daytona. Those guys timing race laps must of all had eagle eyes. I couldn't see a damn thing on any of them even with my readers on.

Below 7”, go for the mid-sized Daytona, 7” or above, get the full sized Sky Dweller.

The white dial ceramic Daytona is a heirloom piece. I have one but I would really like to have a Sky D, SS blue dial for travel. I believe long term the Sky D will also be a good investment.
