Be aware...and a question

So a couple of weeks ago I got an email saying my TRF account had been suspended because someone posted an ad for a potentially fake sky dweller under my account. After jumping through some hoops, including having to pay $12 and send some personal information to Steve to verify that I was who I said I was, I was able to get the account reinstated.

I got a new password, and made sure it is long and complex. Now, for the last several days, I have gotten an email saying that someone is trying to log into my account, and has reached the maximum number of login attempts, and that the account is locked for 15 minutes. This has happened two or three different times now. It gives the IP address of the person trying to login, which is always the same. There’s no way they will ever guess my password, so I feel like the account is safe in that regard, however I wanted to ask:

-anything else need to be done?
-Is there a way to identify who the offending jerk-off is through the IP address?

Just be careful i guess. Lots of dishonest dbags out there. Made sure my password is not pre-saved on my browser or that I don’t click on any links or emails that I don’t know(though I never did before either).

Man. This sucks. Thanks for bringing it to our attention so that others don’t fall prey. Hope they find out who is doing this.

I think you might need a subpoena against an ISP to get their identity from their IP address, unfortunately. If you had an idea of who it could be, you could try to elicit their IP address through communication with them and then compare IP addresses- but beyond that, your options might be limited.

Hopefully the mods are reading this thread, though.

That’s crazy. I’ve heard you can track people down with an IP address but i am not sure if that’s true or not.

I expect G has pushed the red triangle and advised them?

Look up the IP address. The first few set of numbers help with the location they are trying to access from.

Thanks for sharing this. Everyone on TRF should have a complicated password. If not, they should change it today.

The answer is yes but it would be a lot of work. Most likely this person will give up now that they can’t get in to your account.

Sorry this happened to you.

Who is sending the email? I don’t believe that TRF administration does this so I’d say that the same troll that phished you password originally is trying again. If you try to log on to a link that you were emailed then you’ve given up your password again, doesn’t matter how good it is if you log into a mirrored site that looks like TRF.

People on this forum need to come off forums for a minute and realise that there is real stuff that’s happening in the real world. Posting a huge novel to tell us your account was hacked... really?! Replies to that novel saying ‘this sucks’ and ‘that’s crazy’ - accounts get hacked on the internet all the time - get over it

If they are smart enough to work out your password and if they are in a position to get hold of fake watches and attempt to sell them then I'm quite sure they would be hiding their true ip behind a VPN.

It's ok, the forum software does issue an automatic warning when someone tries and fails to get onto your account. It's happened to me before, too. Should be ok if you just keep calm and carry on, as they say.
