Sell my 16613 and buy a 116613

So it looks like I could sell my 16613 and for $1000-2000 more I can get a 116613, anyone had both? I've always liked the older blue subs colour better but after getting a new black sub with the glide clasp I really like that and figure the new blue sub will have that and don't mind the new blue colour.

I think for value down the road the 16613 would be a better option to hang on to?

Also what do you guys think a realistic price is for a 2008 two tone blue sub 16613 in great condition box but no papers ?

I'd keep the 2008 16613 in great condition. Thank me later.

Watch only maybe 7K ....if you had box and papers 8-9K depending on condition...

Thats why it always pays off to always get the full set/box papers.

I could be wrong, but this could be a CAD/USD difference here given the locations.

Good point.

Taking the current exchange rate then the OP’s watch (without full set) is projected to be worth the following estimate.

$7000 USD
$9,200 CAD

Current condition, recent service, etc. would also come into play.

My suggestion (and I am an old Torontonian now living in USA), don't base your watch purchase decisions based on perceived future market prices. You won't make or break the bank by keeping the 16613 (I own one) for a few more years. The most it moves will perhaps be 1k up or down.

If you like the 6 digit better as in larger case, larger hour markers, larger hands, (not considering the ceramic bezel, better bracelet, glidelock, which are better of course)... then go ahead and do the switch and pay the price difference. You will enjoy the watch that you want and once the payment is done and forgotten about, you will love your new watch forever more.

But in my case, for example, I will keep the 5 digit and not replace it with a 6 digit one. I have the 6 digit LV and love it, and would love to add a 116613 when I have the chance, but not at the price of sacrificing my 16613. For others, this might not be the case and they might easily move from 16613 to 116613.

There is a 2008 16613 with box and paper selling for $9450 usd. Excellent condition. Doubt you can get that much without box and paper.

I agree with Faz. Don’t worry about future values and get the watch that sings to you more.

I did a lot of research on both models, handled them, tried them on, etc. I ultimately went with the 116613LB because I loved every modern improvement, to include the wider lugs. Good luck with your decision.

I flipped my 16803 the model before the 16613 for a 116613. I love the 116613 but do wish I kept the 16803. I'd advise to keep the old and save for the new. Good luck and happy hunting.

10k is too high with no papers for the 5 digit sub. I hope you get it.

I have had a 16613 since 1993 and use for my daily wearing.I added a 116613,it is a great watch but different.16613 more elegant but love both.
I would say just add ceramic version and definitely keep older 16613.
Value wise,16613 will do well and you will be glad you kept, trust me😊

Ya I think I will list high and if I get it I will sell it and get the newer one

BUT I feel I may regret the decision in the future lol well see I doubt I will get the 10k USD I'm asking for it so will end up likely keeping it as I don't want to pay more then $1500usd more to upgrade

I traded my 16613 for the new model plus some cash. No regrets. It’s an improved watch.

I traded in the 5 digit for the 6 digit 13LB, with no regrets. It is not just an upgrade, it is truly a different watch.

Two tone Rolex models never made it in a similar way as the S/steel
I will trade the 16613 for the 116613 which is a superior Rolex Sub
An outlay of $1,000 or 2,000 extra cash to do the exchange ?
I seriously doubt it will be enough ...more like $4,000
Good luck

I dont think so. I have a complete set one (p serial). The fact that its a 2008 doesnt add much premium (ive also had a Z serial, no box or papers)

Depends what you mean by superior both have the same most important bit the movement. While some say the bracelet/clasp is better but thats down to opinions, nothing wrong with the 16613 bracelet its stood the test of time.

I considered this option in December. I ultimately just added a new 116610LN instead. I rotate these two and for my small wrist, the 16613 is more comfortable but I love both.
Had my 2002 16613 serviced after 17 years of daily wear and when it came back I fell in love all over again. This watch will never leave my collection so the whole polish debate is not a factor for me...

Agree on the important bit - both 5-digit & 6-digit models keep time equally well.

I’ve also had watches with all the different clasps Rolex ever made since the ‘70’s. The 1990’s 16613 I have with the regular fold-over clasp is one that I prefer over the larger ones.

Sure, I need an extra minute or two to adjust the clasp during each season change - but I could fix that problem by reduced indulgence in holiday excesses...

I am in a very similiar situation myself. I am leaning towards the newer option but at the same time feel keeping the older model would be the better option in the long term in terms of value/resale. I personally buy to wear so I am not too concerned about resale, keeping both would be ideal but I can only afford one.
