So This Was Weird...
...I was playing doubles with a new guy here in Naples and he's playing wearing a beautiful white 16520 (Daytona with Zenith movement). At first I was confused: wait, it's got the black sub dials but a SS bezel???? Oh damn, that's beautiful
We chatted watches for just a minute at a changeover. He wears his 24/7. I have to say that it looked fantastic from across the net, and really sparkled in the Florida sun. I assume he's not on here, as he would be kicked off for watch abuse. I will admit that although I used to wear my Datejust playing tennis all the time, I don't wear my Daytona while exercising. Although I do wear it doing most everything else.

My father has always been “that guy”. Nothing wrong with it at all, foreign to me. He played tennis, golf, rarely took (whichever) watch he was wearing off. (And his all ways looked spectacular)
Me, I take it off right when I get home, and don’t put one on until I’m walking out of the door! No exercising, sleeping or whatever else! |

The SS Daytona is light on the wrist so he probably doesn’t even notice it while he plays. Your Platona would be a different story though!

Truly, it was very cool to see the watch, see it from across the net and see how noticeable it was, and just to have someone enjoying the watch without worrying about it.

You likely give your watch more of a shock clapping, than a smooth swing of a racquet.

I don't understand -- what's wrong with wearing it while playing tennis? Afraid of the shocks damaging it? I'm seriously asking -- I wear mine GMT or my DJ all the time and only take if off if I'm doing something like working on my motorcycle where I might scrape it on a sharp metal piece or tool. But I wear it swimming, running, etc., with out any thought... Is the shock of hitting a tennis ball really a risk?

I felled a 30 foot tree with a chainsaw wearing the worlds thinnest chronograph. Still runs like a top.

I never could wear anything while playing tennis until the Apple Watch was invented. Still prefer a couple of wrist bands.
You guys may know better than I do but isn’t such a high impact sport harmful to the movement of any watch? It’s a mechanical little machine that should not be beaten up in tennis or gulf courts, or maybe I’m wrong:-) Quote:

I think this just reflects normal people! My father has had a datejust since I was a baby in the early 1970s. I’ve never seen him without it. He wore it playing tennis and cricket when younger. He wore it on every holiday, swimming in the sea, pool, hiking, etc etc etc. To him, it’s just a watch, nothing more.

Years ago I started wearing my Rolex on my right wrist when I play golf...I’ve gotten so used to it in my swing rhythm that if I take it off, it throws my swing off. BLNR, DD40 - I don’t even notice when I’m playing.

If happily wear any of my Rolex watches playing tennis, not sure I’d wear my AP’s or Nautilus though!

Mine comes off when I sleep as my Ball watch has much better lume. Mine comes off when I swim as my Garmin does a much better job of tracking laps. It comes off when I shower as I don't like getting soap on it. Other than those times I wear mine all the time. The only shock to the Rolex on the none racquet hand is throwing the ball up during a serve, fwiw (unless ones prone to taking tumbles while playing of course).

I know that the OP is not suggesting this, but I find it a bit sad that some people think it’s strange that having paid thousand for a watch some people then actual wear and enjoy then!

Always played with mine on and never had an issue. That reference is a nice one in that it appears less blingy than the 116520 (though while I have my issues with both, think they both have their appeal). |

IIRC the Seamaster (Omega) was really a watch designed for the tennis crowd. Watches are pretty much standard attire for the sport. Tennis bracelets for ladies as well.

No watch when at the gym, golfing, shower, sleeping, etc.
However, this is a comfort thing and not a protect my watch thing.

This is cheating. I'd not concentrate enough if I played with someone wearing a sports Rolex lol

Worse still, some will even chastise others for actually wearing their watches during physical activities. |
