Hi for many years a longed to own a Sub or GMT but could never afford one. I ca remember looking in AD windows seeing them but now I can afford one I can't purchase one without waiting years through a AD. I'm on a list a my local AD. I am new hear so sorry if this is a repeat post from other forums. I'm just wondering if I can speed this process up. Steve.

Yeah I would just pay extra to have it now. Markup is only a few hundred extra for a submariner.

Go to your three nearest AD's, tell them your story, get on the list for a sub and I'd put money on 1 of them coming through this year.

You'll be told up to 4 years but that's to put you off.

Keep going back from time to time to show them you are serious but don't push them.

Use the months to wait to build up a cash buffer. If you had to save up for a while, its going to sting a bit, being thrifty for a few months and saving always takes the sting away a bit.

Go find a reputable Grey Dealer near you with a good reputation and a brick and mortar store. Get the watch you want after making the best deal possible. Start wearing your watch and enjoying it. Let us know what you decide. Good luck.

As you know, it’s very difficult in the UK, to get a sports watch, dealers may tell you that you are on a list, but don’t hold your breath, I doubt you will get a call.

As others have suggested, bite the bullet and buy from a grey dealer, yes, it going to cost a bit more, but at least you will have a watch that you want.

Maybe something to think about, a few years ago, I asked my AD to get me a Sub LVc, I waited and waited, in the end I went grey with a year old worn one. After six months AD called and said the had the Sub for me, I bought it and sold the LVc back to the grey dealer I bought it from for a small profit.

Go grey or wait. It's a simple choice and depends on a number of factors that only you can balance for your needs and wants. Just don't go second hand bargain hunting. That won't end well.

Either you have join in the queue listed by ADs and wait for good news where a handful were able to get them without an previous purchase.. Seriously I also hope it will happen to me ... Or just pay more and get from grey.

Oh to have known, a year and a half ago, what I know now. I had made up my mind to buy either a sub or sea dweller. Literally wanted one for half my life. Walked into a big AD in a very wealthy area where I live. Actually asked, "I'd like to see some subs and sea dwellers, maybe a few variations of each so I can compare them. I'd also like to look at the Tudor 58 on a bracelet since that looks pretty cool too." They looked at me like I had a third eye...

I didn't realize I needed the equivalent of a Masters degree in The Rolex Market to actually buy one... But yeah, after paying attention to it for a year I feel I know something about it.

I would say if you are thinking of trying to acquire a few hard to find SS models (Sub/Daytona/SD/GMT) then it might be worth trying to start a "relationship" with an AD. If you just want a sub and plan to stop there then go to a grey or trusted seller here and just buy one. The markup is minimal on subs these days. I didn't have the patience or interest to jump through all the AD hoops. That being said I do enjoy visiting them and looking when I come across one.

Go grey for a sub! If you're lucky, it can be the only watch you'll ever need. If you're not, you'll catch the Rolex bug and be stuck here with us.

Hi Steve, sadly without decent purchase history, you’re going to really struggle.
As others have said, you may have to pay the premium, or pick a different model/brand

Not sure if you're only interested in the newer ceramic models but as an option, you can look into getting a neo-vintage GMT or Sub (16710/16760 or 16610/14060). The neo-vintage Subs can be had for reasonable prices (compared to newer ceramic models). Even the neo-vintage GMTs can be had for less than ceramic models.
