What makes a rolex so special?

I personally bought mine because it's a Rolex lol nothing more then that,,,,I'm sure 90 percent do the same but pretend they dont,,,,but there is a small percentage that's into watches and movements etc etc but I assume most people buy it for the status symbol?

But generally what makes a rolex so special? It tells time like any other watch, and using a sub as a dive watch what makes that better then any other watch? Like are we mainly paying for the name/marketing like everything else or is there something that makes Rolex stand out from others.

Where can I learn more about Rolex? I read a bit about movements but I guess I don't understand it well as I don't know much but want to learn more

I also buy because they are a rather mysterious brand that doesn't follow industry trends and doesn't try to connect with their customers. Maybe it's my Stockholm syndrome lol.

I bought Rolex because of the quality, heritage and toughness. It will be passed on to my son and should last 100 years if maintained.

Designs.
Quality.
Accuracy.
Durability.

I'd buy anything that checks all those boxes.

I don't consider them special in the total world of automatic watches. I just like some of their designs.

OP:

It would be interesting to see the Rolex you purchased since you just bought it because it is a Rolex.

So what grabbed you? The "Rolex" name only? Interesting, do explain.

I buy rolex because my fish spoke to me one night like the son of Sam & said “ you must buy rolex” so to keep the fish flapping I oblige. The fish made me do it!!!!!

Rolex represents some of the best value in Swiss Luxury watch making. They build good quality watches that are solidly built, and reliable. They also have a rich history and are innovators in developing useful complications such as the GMT, datejust and a myriad of divers.

It’s also appealing to me that they are a foundation which donates to charities worldwide.

Nothing makes Rolex special...

If I had to pick something that I love about the brand that makes it stand out against the sea of other Highend watch makers, I would have to say it's been the integrity of the brand... the unwillingness to sell out and release myriads of special models and colorations that other manufacturers seemingly do as a marketing strategy. Trying to please everyone, these others end up pleasing no one.

I mainly buy any watch to include in my collection because I love the way it looks on my wrist and it puts a smile on my face while being able to fit my lifestyle.

This is true of any watch I have bought previously regardless of brand. Rolex, Tudor, IWC, Omega, Seiko. I even plan to add other brands that I have come to appreciate as well. I look forward to adding Panerai, FPJ, ALS, AP.

Brand heritage, movement specs, and watchmaking are also things that I love to add to my knowledge base in my spare time.

People buy what they want for their own reasons. In the grand scheme of things, do those reasons matter?

Think it's pretty easy to understand? It's like everything else why does one wear Gucci shoes when they are horrible compared to a pair of Nike and Adidas? If you cant figure this out lol Rolex is a well known watch so if your looking to show off your buy a rolex like you'd buy Gucci shoes no? Lol

I got 2 subs and a datejust, I got only cuz wasn't a lot of money for me

For me, although I loved watches, I didn't know too much about them other than I loved Chronographs.

When I saw the black dial Rolex Daytona in 1991, I thought it was the most beautiful watch I'd ever seen, and swore one day I'd have one.

2018, the black dial 116520 finally landed on my wrist.

I like the idea on how they hold value and lasts a lifetime,,,,aside from the name that is what got me to buy Rolex,,,,,originally I wanted a breitling I'm so happy I didn't go down that route,,,,Rolex watch size like 40mm seems perfect for my wrist before I wanted a huge breitling which I think looks tacky now

Bad idea. Start a forum for for Rolex and it will turn into an investment forum.

You answered yourself already. You bought a Rolex because it’s a Rolex. It’s self explanatory.

What makes a rolex so special?

“What makes a Rolex so special?”

For some, Marketing Psychobabble fuels a lemming-like chase to pay 2x for high demand models.

For most, a Rolex celebrates an achievement and a certain amount of status.

Only WIS over-analyze this phenomenon.
