Rolex Daytona £1300 Rolex Uk service through an AD for a 16520 A serial
Well, after over two months of a wait I got the call from my local Rolex AD to come in and pick up my watch. So, this Saturday off I went with great expectation with the missus to pick it up. In we go to the AD and received the usual niceties (coffee etc.). I have developed a bit of a relationship with one of the sales executives and when he saw me he immediately went off to find my watch.
The watch was was produced to me on a tray with the striped service stickers attached still from the green service pouch with bezel protector and the paper credit cart type warranty (no service booklet as I had expected with the card attached to the back page). After looking at the watch I was not very impressed, the bracelet was completely brushed with no high polished centre link (which IMO looked better but was no correct) and the fact that the second hand did not reset to zero. As, it should have when working the Chronograph. I returned the watch back to the staff and expressed my dissatisfaction. I was told that the watch wold be return to Rolex London to be rectified. The experience made me ponder if the watch had been serviced at the AD and not Rolex London as it recently attained service centre accreditation. Even thou I was assured that the work had been carried out by Rolex London. Any thoughts? Should I call Rolex London and explain my situation? Full service £900, Zenith movement. New crown (compulsory requirement). 1x pusher New oscillating weight New crystal (which was insisted on and compulsory). Total £1315 Also the receipt was not on Rolex headed paper with a break down of costs but the AD’s Can anyone from the UK give me a break down of what should be returned with the watch from Rolex London to me from the AD? Cheers, M |

Should have Rolex headed letter with receipt for work broken down. I would not have expected to have a bracelet polished incorrectly. In London RSC a choice was always given as to whether I wanted parts replaced on the older pieces I brought in. I’ll dig out a receipt and post a bit later.

I would ring the RSC and discuss this service.

I recently serviced a Datejust at Rolex in Singapore and they gave me a booklet which gives details of the entire service process (albeit a generic one that applies to all watches).
The booklet has a slot into which a 2-year warranty card was inserted. |

Doesn’t sound like Rolex ever saw your watch going by your info.
That would really bother me & you done the right thing digging your heels in.

Whoever worked on the watch is the only authority that can give you a breakdown IMO. Even if you went directly to the RSC in London they still might not do everything right if they did not have enough spare parts inventory for your Daytona. As you are from the UK and have freedom to travel anywhere without any visa hassle, flying to Geneva and going to the RSC inside the factory would be the best place to go to minimize risks. As you would need to drop the watch you would need to fly twice, but if the service cost would be a bit cheaper then it would pay some part of the tickets. Even the watchmaker who would work on your watch in Geneva is a human being and could do mistakes as well. But the risks would be much less because there is better QC, education, experience and unlimited genuine spare parts at the factory. For now I would contact both your local RSC and also Rolex Geneve as well, and try to reach to a resolution even any resolution would not make me happy as I would loose all my trust to both, but that is life. I also wonder why did they change the crystal for no reason? |

At least that's what they told me when I sent my Milgauss GV in for service. The same logic might apply to the crown, though I haven't had personal experience on this count. Of course, the problem is that we have no way of verifying whether either is really so structurally damaged that a change is warranted. Only the assessment by Rolex technicians. |

If the crown is not worn it is also unnecessary to replace it. The two crown o rings do the job for the water resistance. This makes me think that unnecessary high pressure air tests cause crystal to get broken and they replace it. You never know whats happening in the background. When you leave the watch for servicing they do not tell you that they would need to change the crystal. |

I can’t comment as I never went through AD, but I took it to st James (RSC) few years ago. They normally email me the invoice and hard copy when I went to pick up the watch. You can try to give them a call just to check if your watch actually went in for a service. They probably will ask for with your name or AD name as well as your watch serial number to get information out. Good luck.
