I still love the brick since that was my first cell phone. It was solid and had great battery life... gotta love AMPS!

Na, before my time ! My first Cell Phone was the Motorola StarTac (also the first Motorola Clam-shell flip if I remember correctly). Back then the "Dual Band" digital (that one was the black model, the regualr StarTac was gray) was $500 from Bell Atlantic Mobile back in like 2000-2001.
My how times (and technology) have changed.

I do remember my father carrying around that brick in his briefcase. (I was in college at the time)

You could not put that thing in your jacket or pocket, it was just too big and heavy.

And worse of all.... they were freaking expensive... a local call was like 2 dollars a minute!

Boy times have changed.....

My first cell phone was the Motorola 'Flip' phone above, in 1992. It made a 'beeping' sound as you dialed and dropped calls were the 'norm'. My carrier then was PacTel Cellular, which later became AirTouch Communications. I think I paid $69.99 a month for something like 100 minutes back then.

These days, I have a plan with T Mobile which has Blackberry corporate e-mail access and 1500 minutes for around the same price.

Oh, the memories of using cellular service back in 1992 ! How times have changed !

Charlie, close on those videos but I was thinking about the car phones that had cords to connect them with a base, i.e. Miami Vice TV Show,etc............

it was revolutionary when it came out and everyone wanted one. Much bigger craze than the current iphone craze.

I use a 3G iphone btw which is very nice but still a little buggy.

My first cell phone was a bag phone. Battery lasted for a total of 30 minutes and it was huge and clunky. My next was the original Motorola Flip phone, that thing was fantastic. It was solid as a rock. I threw the thing through my wall once and it was just fine. I used to put it in my back pocket of my blue jeans. I also had the CellularOne service. I remember how cool it was to have free nights and weekend. I used to sit in my car and talk to my girlfriend with the phone plugged into the cigarette lighter charger b/c the battery life was about 30 minutes of talk time.

Precious memories, I started with the micro tac prepaid and I had always wanted the Star tac and i got the analog version in 99 and the digital startac version in like 2000 on prepaid. I went thru them all but the Digital Startac was the phone to own just like the iPHone is the phone to own today! Nokia was one of the most popular and believe it or not if feels like yesterday when those phones were popular.
