Icon9 Just got a ceramic daytona

Hi guys I just got a rolex ceramic daytona white dial and as everywhere said that it is 40mm in diameter not include the crown pusher, I measured it so many time with so many tools and it is still not 40mm, it is around 38-38.5 mm. Is something wrong with my daytona

If this is real, then worry not, your daytona is fine. That's the precise measurements. Take it into an AD for authenticity verification if you are concerned, that will put your mind at ease. Enjoy your new watch, it's a fantastic piece!

No most watch manufactures always round up the numbers as bigger today to many makes it seem better, just wear your Daytona like the millions of others Daytona wearers world wide in good health.

The SS version is roughly 38-38.5mm as other posters have said.

The PM models are closer to the true 40mm.

As far as size, that is the correct size of the Daytona, always has been. The DJ41 is the same, it is not a 41mm watch, I believe the DD40 is also smaller(but not 100% sure of that one), It's a Rolex thing.

Now I cannot vouch for any other criteria as to why you should not be worried. If you were buying this watch grey, you need to be 1000% sure the buyer is trusted and authentic because that is a lot of money to be having doubts with.

Take it to a jeweller who buys and sells Rolexes and wait near the watch while they open the caseback lid, and they will tell you whats inside in a second. Dont drop the watch anywhere even to AD, as you will never know what will they do with your movement.

Well, they are both advertised as 40mm, but yes they are slightly different.

The SS models left lug and right lug has a size difference while the PM are more proportionate.

Rolex lies about their diameters on many watches. The most blatant example is the Datejust 41 which gives the diameter at 41 both in name and in specs, yet measures slightly over 39 mm. I don't know why they do it. Some watches, like the Sea Dweller 43 mm measure in exactly as they state, 43 mm. Others like the Daytona and Day Date come in well short of their stated diameters. Very annoying and deceptive to buyers IMO.

If it is 40mm you need to worry if its not real but if its 38 or 38.5 its definitely real!

PS: I hope you didn't purchase from Horology house - then I'm afraid you need to double check!

There's this extreme Rolex - rounding of 38mm as 40mm and 39mm watch as 41mm and on the other hand we have Omega giving diameters as 36.2mm and 39.2mm on their Seamasters!

Omega's diameters definitely don't tell the whole story. I recently got one of the co-axial moonwatches which are all stated as being 44.25 mm in diameter. I put it on and it doesn't wear anywhere near that large. In fact wears smaller than my 43 mm Sea Dweller.

So I bought a set of calipers. Sure enough, measured at the back of the case, including crown guards it comes in right at 44.25 mm just like they said. However, the dial/bezel width measures 41.6 mm (which is the closest thing I have found to perfect size in my mind) and really that is the part your eyes see when you look at the watch. Not the rounded case sides or crown guards. Interesting how each company does it a little different.

GMT II Accuracy - and others

I'll take it off your hands - a couple mm won't deter me!

This thread only makes me want a SS Daytona even more. I have a smaller wrist and like the fact that Daytona wears small. And to think, I was considering getting a PM Daytona to satisfy the itch. Back to waiting.

Same mate! But the scratches clasp Daytona topic and the beautiful pic made me to go between the panda and black dial...

6-digit PM and SS bezels are the same diameter at 38.5x mm. PM cases are slightly larger with longer and balanced lugs, making them wear slightly larger. Currently the only PM case that isn't larger is the YG on full bracelet.

So, generally speaking, the PM Daytona wears closer to 40mm despite still being a 38.5x mm watch. And, the stainless Daytona wears more like a 39mm.

I don't see Daytona size increasing unless Rolex makes a larger movement to push the totalizers outward to match a larger dial and case. Since this is highly unlikely, the 4130 dictates the current Daytona overall size and appearance.

There are literally a million threads on here that discuss the fact that the Daytona wears small. There are also another million threads about the case design of the PM models being slightly larger (mm) with longer/thicker lugs than those of the SS version.

To the OP, I wouldn't assume your watch is fake based on your concern around the case size and it wearing small. However, the fact that you have concerns over its authenticity makes me challenge whether you felt comfortable with the grey market seller in the first place. Old saying: buy the seller, not the watch.

I did read that they shrink in steam rooms! That’s probably the issue.

One reason I sold my white dial Daytona, it wears too small.
