First Rolex Recommend

Hi, I'm thinking of geting my first rolex as a present for myself.

Can anybody recommend me which model should I go for(for daily wear)? My budget is roughly around 13k US.

Also should I wait for a new 2020 model or get the 2019 one? What month in 2020 rolex usually anounce a new release date?

daily wear is subjective; do you need a date? do you do business across multiple time zones? how big is your wrist? do you currently have other watches you like?

$13k is a fair window for some models, but you’re probably going to need to purchase through a trusted seller in order to actually acquire a watch in any reasonable timeframe.

even if they do release new models in april at Baselworld, you won’t be able to buy one without a very steep premium, so i would certainly suggest you try to source a current model from a trusted seller.

I'm planning to go for 41mm size due to my wrist size. With date is a plus but it's fine without it. I usually don't get to travel much due to my business. I never once buying a watch before so I'm thinking of getting it from where I live which is Thailand at rolex shop or just travel around Asia to get one.

Hi, I'm thinking about get 41mm one due to my wrist. With date is a plus but without it is fine. I'm don't usually travel much due to my business so my plan is to either buying it here at rolex store in Thailand or get in somewhere in Asia. When will the new model will usually be release globally? Thanks

All rolex are beautiful..just go any rolex that your money can afford..
Bluesy will be nice for your day to day wear..

For a first timer you can't go wrong with an explorer 1 if you want a no date super versatile simple looking watch. If you want a watch with a date take the 116610LN submariner its an iconic beautiful watch

Fantastic choice! Be sure to try it on first and see if you like it. It should not be hard to find at AD.

I actually went to the AD looking for a SUB because this forum basically brainwashed me into thinking that was THEE go to Rolex to start with. Surprise Surprise, there were none in stock, but they had a Milgauss!

My vote: If under 40 get Sub Date. If Over 40, get DJ. If a lucky soul or well connected, then get white Daytona.

Scratching my head at this. I’m under 40 and love my DJ. I find it to be one of the most versatile pieces in my collection.

To the OP, as someone else mentioned, when you think of owning a Rolex, what model comes to mind and makes you smile? At the end of the day, don’t buy a particular Rolex because of what other people think, buy the one that you like.

Depends on your wrist size as well. If it’s smaller than average go something <40mm. Try on lots of different models. I would suggest starting with Datejust and working your way up.

Unfortunately you will NEVER EVER find an AD nowadays with a sub on display, just bite the bullet and go grey, life is too short playing the waiting game. That's how I got my Hulk recently. Gone the days where I got my BLNR at msrp back at 2016. Heck I even got the AP royal oak 15400ST white dial below MSRP new with box and papers at 13,500USD and never sold it. Don't even try to look at the price of the royal oak 15400ST in chrono24 now lol

Would not take the aforementioned advice of buying a datejust. They don't hold value nearly as well as steel professional models. Given that this is your first Rolex, it's highly likely that your tastes will change over time, and you may want to let go of this first watch and sell it to fund another piece in the future. You're going to end up taking a pretty big hit on the DJ (unless it's a 41mm fluted jubilee with blue dial, in which case you'll have to wait anyways)- this would not be the case with something like an explorer, sub, gmt, or daytona.

This is what happened to me over a decade ago- I bought a lightly used coca cola GMT as my first for ~$4.5k. It appreciated to over $9k over that time and I recently sold it to fund the purchase of a new sub at the AD. Times have changed since then in terms of the new and used rolex markets, and it would be very hard to get a new GMT from an AD without previous purchase history, but I still believe strongly that subs, gmts, and daytonas will continue to gradually appreciate over time. The same just can't be said with DJs. It was awesome to have something that I got a lot of time with and enjoyment out of, but it also managed to essentially pay for a brand new watch that I will continue to be able to enjoy.

I'd start looking into getting an explorer or a sub- wait times should not be too long for either of these unless you're in a wealth dense, major metropolitan area.

People will probably shun me on here for talking about watches as an "investment," but many on here would be lying to themselves if they weren't considering the underlying and future value of the watches when choosing their next piece or "getting in line" for a hot model.

I am not trying to say that value is the only thing you should consider when choosing your first piece- the most important thing is that you love what you buy.

submariner or gmt II. you can get a nice example in your price range.

in reference to your query about release dates...

Rolex releases the new models at Baselworld, but usually (unless you’re a serious VIP) those models don’t hit dealers until summer or fall. and even then, it can be very difficult to acquire one.

I'd lurk on here for a month or so and look at pics and see what you like. Do a little personal reflection and try to figure out what fits bwith your lifestyle. I don't think you should look at the watch as an investment. You'll have to wait for some models, not wait for others. Don't worry about that until you figure out what you like and what you want.

I got my first Rolex a couple of months ago by doing so I had gone through an intensive long research phase where I saw my taste twisting from one side to the other.
However, as it was my first Rolex I wanted it to be an iconic model with timeless design. I settled on 3 categories, the Datejust 41mm, a Black ceramic Diver with date and finally a GMT BLRO or BLNR. Next step I took was to visit a Rolex Boutique to see those models in the metal and try them out on my wrist. Once I did that, picking the watch of my dreams became so easy and straightforward. I highly advise you to do your research online first, take notes of the models that sing to you and then go try them out.

Like alot of either people have said here, I would go with the DJ41. Lots of options in terms of dial colors and most importantly, readily available. If you want to have that sports model feel you can get it on a oyster bracelet. My only advice would be to with a fluted bezel!
