Sky-dweller or DSSD (JC)

So I'm lining myself up to get my first Rolex.

Now I know the DSSD is rare as rocking horse doo doo and have my heart set on this.

Having just been into a Rolex boutique whilst on holiday no suprise they had no DSSD and confirmed the was little chance of getting one and to walk into a dealer on the off chance of getting one would be very very lucky.

However, they did have a black faced Sky-Dweller which looked very nice. Said it was also a rare piece, yet it was a bit more classy than I was looking for (sport).

Anyway, I know the answer, wait for the one I want, but thought I'd start in the community here and throw it out there for people's opinions :).

Its a complete myth no Rolex watch is rare yes some made in smaller numbers but rare no Rolex make around 900000 watches each year.Now if you want a really rare Rolex watch try finding and buying one of the left hand wind Rolex watches now they are really rare.Watches like the DSSD should be quite easy to find yes most of the sports line up at the moment hard to find at ADs. But on the grey market hundreds possible thousands for for sale all models at a price,mainly because over the past 3-5 years Rolex stopped being watches bought worn and enjoyed, now they are little more than £££££££$$$$$$$ to many.

There’s been a DSSD at my AD for at least a week ... not rare IMO and if you check in with your AD I’m sure they can set you up with one sooner than later

I'd race back for the black Sky Dweller if it was a stainless. The Sky Dweller is next on my hunt list.

I have both and love both but very different watches. The Skydweller will be the harder to acquire via an AD so if there is one there grab it ( particularly black dial) . Good luck.

Skydweller is certainly harder to get, especially the blue. I have both and love both. The jc is THE sports watch, nothing more robust...love it. It isn’t subtle tough.
The skydweller is certainly more versatile.

I appreciate the skydweller for what is is, but I'm just not a fan of the watch on my wrist. If they made it with a smooth bezel and an all brushed oyster bracelet/case, I would be VERY interested.

I'd go for the JC DSSD, with it's gorgeous blue-fade-to-black dial.

Get what your heart was set on, DSSD. If what they had was a SS SkyD, then it is one of the harder watches to get. My guess was that it was a PM model. Good luck on your search!

I had a Deep Sea Blue for three years. Sold it to fund a Skydweller. Got a white one and couldn’t be happier to have it. It’s a stunning piece.

The Sky D would be my choice.

For only a little more money than the Deepsea you get Rolex's most complicated watch, with a white gold bezel thrown in.

Rare = 'not found in large numbers'. So yes, the Sky Dweller is a rare thing if trying to buy from an official Rolex dealer.

Nice thing to have if you can get hold of one - the mechanism is excellent.

Both are great watches and I have owned multiples over the years. I current prefer the DSSD JC. The dial is amazing.

That is really a tough choice for me. Luckily I have both, but faced with a choice I would pick the SkyD as it has more features and is more versatile.

Very diff watches. Was in love from a distance with the DSSD for a long time till my number came and I tried it on. Didn’t work for me. It’s huge.

Between these two, would get the SkyD.

It's the SS with gold centre link bracelet and bezel with black face.
