Gainsborough Keeps His Blue Boy at the Huntington Library...

...but mine will stay on my wrist.

It took 50 years but it has at last happened. Despite numerous false starts and diversions it’s here, it’s mine, it’s on my wrist and I am a Happy Guy. I a few weeks ago received a 16613 from a jeweler in Redlands. Per our agreement, upon my acceptance of the item they sent it to RSC-Dallas for servicing at their cost. While to my excited and inexperienced eyes it appeared perfect, you will note RSC deigned it necessary to replace the crown, crystal and bezel disc.

I know there to be differing opinions on the two-tones. That said, we all are in agreement one buys that which one finds aesthetically pleasing or has significance. My friends, this Rolex has significance on several levels. I retired 21 months ago after 32 years with the county courts, life with the Loving Bride is better than ever, I turned 65 the week of its arrival and I’ve come upon this forum which will, as it has already, add to my enjoyment of this specific watch and the hobby overall.

It will never escape me the fact this is but a watch. A material item which in no way bestows upon its owner any greater wisdom or goodness and, aside from those of you here to whom this joy is confided, will seldom to anyone else signify anything. But, ladies and gentlemen, to me those highlights of that sunburst blue dial and the gold-through clasp are epic beyond words and a measure of satisfaction renews each time they are viewed. It is a celebration of many things and I get totally geeked each time they are seen.

“Let Joy be unconfined.”

My thanks to each of you for the kind and congratulatory words. It is and will forever be a classic and wonderful choice.

JRubero - I'm enjoying the bejabbers out of retirement. Even with stay-at-home orders here in California I've yet to be bored for even one second.

SuperstarMar - I've seen your pictures of the 16613. I'm going to have to look for the Owners Thread now that I'm 'conditionally qualified' to seek membership.

Cop414 - Thanks, Sarge (or I would so assume...).

Junamuan, Johnorpheus, MMaggi and GoingPlaces - Thank you.

Schoolboy - The yellow watch is but a Seiko 5. It was a series whose sales were limited to, I believe, Singapore. I attached the mesh bracelet and had a dome sapphire installed. At the age of about ten I saw what was a yellow US Divers Doxa on a young guy. That started my interest in watches. I'm still going to pick up one of those babies which is now called the Divingstar.

CKizzy, Grady, PW and Abozz - Thanks for the congratulations and comments on the post.

As an aside, the lady in the picture is the sales clerk with we've done a fair amount of business.

Soarer, correct and sharp eye. It's actually one to which many refer as the "Mini-Monster". The series claims only 100 meters of WR and the crown is a simple pull-out absent the screw-down/up feature, amongst others, of the full-on Monster.
