Pay MSRP or Wait?

With this market, Im not sure what to do exactly. Ive been offered an SD43 at MSRP plus tax . Not sure if I should go for it or wait for a slightly used one in this market at a nice discount. I'm thinking the SD43 and the DSSD may also be offered at a slight discount in the future. What do ya'll think?

They're not going to be discounted. Once all this crap is over, the SS desire will ramp up again. Buy it now.

There are many folks who are still waiting for prices to come down, and have been for decades - without their favorite watch on their wrist.

If you like it, get it. There are no guarantees of how the market will change.

I would not count on a used one on the cheap. Too much market uncertainty with the closures. There may be a steep price hike on the used items or a drop. Nobody knows. Hot SS models are still limited to demand so I would buy one you want at retail if you have the money to do it now.

You’ll never lose out paying msrp. You can possibly even find one second hand on these forums, especially with the current economic situation and with the hype train leaving the station

Yeah, you might eventually save yourself some money on a used one. But that's a relatively recent watch, so it's unlikely you're going to save a lot of money any time soon. It all depends on your finances and your patience, of course, but I personally would just buy the watch for MSRP if I wanted it.

Anyone who thinks they can get a discount on a desirable sport piece like the SD43 is crazy, If you want it, buy it

This is the buying advice I would abide by in any market and is always solid. Somebody else mentioned it and I agree 100%:

Used SS/All PM: Below MSRP
New SS: MSRP
Used/New Daytona: Slightly Above MSRP

Obviously if you can find new SS below MSRP thats even better but I would consider it a luxury. I think discounts from ADs are going to be gone, regardless of people buying or not, it’s Rolex’s new model.

I think it will be at least a few weeks before people start dumping their watches in pawnshops and online.

I personally think that MSRP, plus tax, is a perfectly reasonable price to pay for something the you truly desire.

I don’t pay much attention to DSSD prices on the secondary market, since it isn’t for me, but I can’t recall ever seeing a SD43 new or used listed for less than MSRP.

I wouldn’t recommend denying yourself the pleasure of wearing the SD43 on the off chance it might be a few bucks less at some uncertain point in the future. It’s an outstanding watch and MSRP would be a good buy if you’d like wearing it.

I say buy it at MSRP, even if it still drops a grand or so, it is still a great deal at MSRP as we haven't been in these times for some years.

Support your local dealer and sales associate who is most likely looking to make a sale.

Consider it an investment in a piece and relationship that will pay later on. Who knows the SA may call you and may offer a harder to get piece later on as a thank you for your support during these hard times.

Just my opinion.

Exactly. Months, probably, and it's not like the market will be flooded. SS pieces at good prices will get scooped up, and once they're gone, it will be back to inflated prices even for used pieces.

I’m a fan of picking up from an AD at MSRP regardless of the status of the grey market. The key is finding a good AD.

It’s as if people completely forget the entire market pre 2017, lol. Part of the problem with the grey market to be honest.

SD43 is my favorite. Get it when u can. Save some maybe, more than likely not, the wait wouldn’t be worth it to me.
