L Series Daytona

Is there anybody out there with a L-Series Daytona 16520 with an original 5-Lines dial?

My understanding always was that L-Series came with 4-Lines dial. Now I've seen 2 watches (L4xx and L6xx) with a 5-Line Mark3 dial (Fratello logic: https://www.fratellowatches.com/gior...ference-16520/)

One watch can be found here: https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...hite-dial-6614

In what series the Mark3 dial was used? Is it collectible which justifies a mark-up vs. a 'normal' inverted 6 dial?

There could be some cross-overs. Keep in mind that nothing is in stone. The lists/charts you're looking at are just compiled by hobbyists/collectors, and are not an official Rolex proclamation about what type dial fits in what serial number.

Sure, most L serial 16520s had the four-line dials, but E serial watches (usually five lines) were also being released in 1990, so I would imagine there could be some cross over between the dial types in L and E serial Daytonas. Doesn't sound like a stretch to me.

Dials could have been swapped during a service. Imagine if a 4line was on there in 1989 then the original owner took the thing in for service in 1993, Rolex could have replaced the dials with whatever was the available dial at the time, perhaps an MK3. The bezel on the HQ one looks to be a replacement as it certainly not an MK3.

Your goal should be to find an example that has as many, if not all, reference points match up to the serial therefore is as "period correct" as possible. For each point that doesn't match, bezel, dial, hands, case ect. you have to weight cost. If its a good enough deal and you're looking to wear it vs. resell it then you'll have to find that balance.

If you do look to resell then you have to ask yourself "what will the next buyer think?"

Very good point. My understanding however was that MK3 bezel (240) was fitted from the end of L5 models. (see here: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/vint...as-t17026.html)

Hence, an L6 with a MK3 dial and MK3 bezel would be time correct. Do you have different information?
