Looks like a refinished case, no? Those bevels are way too aggressive to my eye.

And the lume on dial and hands are so clean and perfectly matched.

Anyway, it's impossible to seriously evaluate a watch from those photos.

I'd say too, it is too "perfect", I mean without any texture...

Ask for better pics and especially one straight from the front.

Better pictures needed, with hands set at 10:10 so we can see the coronet at 12 O'Clock

Overall, looks like a nice example. Some higher resolution photos would confirm this.

It looks like the case was refinished into a really strange shape...lugs looks thinner on the right but could be angle but just looks off. Again like everyone said, the color on the pip, hands and dial all look too matched and even. Also, the lack of corrosion of any kinda on the hands seem odd. I'd check it with a black light if you can but it almost looks like refinished or service hands and dial that were made to look aged. Bezel insert looks good though.

The endlink also somehow looks too even with lugs, every 1680 I've handled has the lugs protruding past the end links by at least 1mm. I guess maybe they refinished the case very aggressively by grinding the lugs back to be able to create that bevel on a really beat up case. Get the serial number and try to match it up with the dial variant if you can. I'm guess you are paying big bucks since its a red sub, but I would be extra careful because they are hitting all the "correct" points ie perfect lume, perfect hands, perfect dial, perfect bezel insert, red sub.

if this is your first time buying vintage as you say:

1) why pick one of the most tricky -most faked- submariner models ever
2) not consider buying from a trusted source as easily found on RolexForums.com
3) take most likely what is a 15k @ chance or gamble on something you do not control , and ask strangers to vouch for such gamble?

Im not being mean, such trying to find reason and common sense here

Well. The watch is local for me.
It is from a reputable dealer, but mainly sell modern Rolexs and APs.
Since the watch is almost perfect , i just want to make sure it is what i want to pay for.

Are they selling it as all original? There’s something that seems off about the lume plots on the dial. They look like they were just applied yesterday. Totally uniform colour and shape. The hands also seem too perfect. It’s clear that the case has had some major work, so that just begs the question: what’s the full story here?

I've never seen a chamfer take up more than half of the lug... That alone would make me run, regardless of what else is going on.

Try to get macro pictures of the lume plots.
I would not buy a watch with this kind of case, but that is personal taste.

Kind regards,

I am also looking at a 1680 red, would welcome thoughts. Looks a very nice example to me and have seen in person. Any thoughts?

Service insert to start. You’ll probably get better advice with a new thread and more/better photos. Dial close ups especially for a red sub.
