Submariner 14060 - Need your review please
Hi all, reading posts for a long time, I decided to purchase my first rolex and I really need your help please. I am looking at this sub. I know the watch has been polished but I think it's quite okay, no ? Do you see something else ? something wrong ??? Thanks for your help !

Is the bezel pristine or dirty at the top? Watch out with that if the pictures aren't sharp or properly taken.

The crown guards are polished to almost intentionally make them look like eagle beak, which is a warning sign (someone tried to pull a funny business during the lifetime of this watch even if it's not the current seller). You should also ask for between-lug shots and inside of case back/movement. If the seller is not willing to do give them to you, I'd walk away. (I'd personally walk away by just those crown guards alone). My $0.02.

These are really dropping in price since COVID. Be patient and find a good one.

This watch probably has the most over-polished crown guards that I have ever seen. Unbelievable!

little too over-polished for me. Looks a little too used. However, if the price reflects the condition...might be a buy..

I would ask for more photos, and post here for a follow-up. Seems 50/50 so far.

Wow. You guys... valid points on the over polishing, but it's one of those things that if you hadn't mentioned it, he'd probably never know and would likely live on happily ever after.
These are becoming old watches, and many have been serviced and polished. Instead of calling them all over polished, let's just say that they have extra patina, huh? And for @Wahlburg's comment, I disagree, I haven't seen prices dropping for nice examples. But I haven't been keeping a close eye on the market either.

This is the 14060 (2010) I bought last year. Crownguards are good or? I think I'm starting to see things that are or aren't there. |

I would never buy a Sub with crown guards polished down like that...it sets alarm bells ringing! And the polishing looks very roughly done to my eyes. It makes me think about what else might be wrong with the watch that I can´t see or am just not expert enough to evaluate? No, walk away, sadly...

I've requested more pictures and the seller refused (watch is in a banksafe, cannot take 100 pictures of every watch, cannot fulfill all wishes, etc.). That watch is definitely not for me, I pass :(
It's not so easy to find a correct 14060 tritium full set in Europe, I'm looking for it since a while now. They are all overpriced ... (contacted a seller in Italy selling a very nice one for 9000Eur !). Anyway, many thanks for your help guys !!! |

Here's mine just back from the RSC. I've had it from new, it's 19 years old & been to the RSC twice so it has had some polishing.
Why do we see watches that have been "polished to death"?? Sub web.jpg |
