Advise needed

Have been offered this submariner. Does it look authentic. Does need a crown and a bracelet. Thoughts!

What is the asking price? That is a scary plunge.

Without knowing price it's hard to give advice. Otherwise my advice is walk away.

Negative. If it were authentic, it would be very expensive

Even though the photo is garbage..

The lume on both the plots and hands appear to be very recent applications.

Ask the seller to retake the photo using a camera and not a potato..

The pic is awful; upload something clear and multiple. From a really bad pic, bezel might be real? Dial and hands look redone.

Haven't nailed the price down yet , so would rather not say. what would be a reasonable price range if authentic.

Picture was sent to me by seller and will be able to take better pictures when i see it in person. also will be able to photograph the movement and case.

Best action to take would be to take some more detailed photos, find out what it would cost, and then come back to the forum for opinions.

This may be a case of "If you have to ask, you can't afford it".

Christy's sold a Sub 6538 at auction for $1,000,000.00, the most expensive Sub to be sold. They typically go for north of $90k..

This one has some immediate issues, so you could likely pick it up for a steal.

Personally, I think that it has been built to resemble a 6538, or it's a completely overhauled, "James Bond" watch..

Here's a few links for fairly recent auctions for Reference 6538. Serious money.

So I’m not the best at taking pictures, does need a crown, new bracelet or reconditioning, caliber 1030and serial starts with 144. Appears at one point dial has been touched up.

Odd the service marks have seemingly been buffed out from inside the caseback.
As others have stated, great photos help. Get some natural light, nothing too harsh, hold the camera back. A 2x zoom on an iPhone works wonders.

Can't tell anything from these photos. If there's even a glimmer of doubt, which there very much is, step away briskly.

baffles me when people ask for better dial pics and the subsequent dial pics are the same quality... you managed to focus in on the bracelet this time round :)

Going back to your original question.

No, it does not look authentic to me. It looks like one of the many 6538 repos out there, with an old 1030 movement.

Naturally, if you are willing to spend the type of money a true 6538 would bring, you would want the advice of a true vintage expert.

Yes! Agreed, this Fell into my lap unexpectedly. Timing with what’s going on around makes it very difficult to take have authenticated by expert because of closures.

With exception to the movement, this 6538 is completely fake.
