5513 Mark V

Hi All,

Recently picked up this 5513 from 1984.

Serial 8207****

I know the pearl has been replaced with a luminova but wondered if anyone more knowledgeable than I can tell me which insert this is?

Thanks in advance

Looks to be an 80s service insert. In fact, the one on the Bulang & Sons one is as well

Isn't the Bulang insert from a 14060 or similar as it has a metal ring around the bezel pip. Don't think 5513's ever did unless later replacement or aftermarket.

Thanks for your reply. I’m trying to find a picture of the correct insert for the 5513 mark V ‘84. I have tried the 5513mattedial.com but seems to only show mark 1,2,3.

Thanks in advance

Do a search on HQMilton.com for "1984 5513". You'll see tons. Like....

Thanks for your help!

Would you say it was worth sourcing a period correct insert for the watch or leave as is?

It's all up to you. And what your plans for the watch are.

yeah, but it's not the correct one. John's site is specifically about the dial Mk variations, not the inserts

Ah! Thanks for your help

Do you know where I might be able to source the right insert. I’d like the watch to be period correct.

Thanks again.

Is the correct insert for the MarkV known as the ‘Mark 4’ insert?

To me it’s worth getting correct and fatter font insert for your matte. Pearl replacement isn’t a biggie.

Thanks for all your help guys.

What I am trying to ascertain is whether I need a mid font or fat font and whether this is referred to as Mk3 or Mk4 insert.

Can you advise if any of the below are right as they don’t seem to match the 4 on the one on the Hq Milton site. I’m quickly learning that this is a minefield.

Look at the tops of the 4s. It’s one way of spotting the differences. Notice how broad and flat they are on the two you just posted? Also, the pearl shouldn’t have a metal surround on it, like the ones you just posted.
You gotta spend hours looking at all this stuff, I’m afraid. A new correct insert for a matte dial sub is gonna be north of $1k, and in excellent condition, well-North. You’d do well to learn all you can about them by looking at pics and studying the nuances. You’ll be grateful in the long run.

Is there actually a term used to describe the period correct insert for the MarkV?

Is it a Mk3 or Mk4? Assuming it is a mid font?

Thanks

Thanks

I’m really struggling to identify the correct insert for the MarkV. The fat font inserts are easier to spot with the kissing 4 and the long 5 but after the Mk3 insert I’m struggling.

Did it move to a mid font in the early eighties? Should the 4 be pointed or flat? Should the font reach the edge of the insert or not?

When I look at all of the MK5 matte dials on HQMilton there seems to be a lot of disparity between the inserts.

If anyone could provide me with a picture of the correct insert with an explanation of the identifiable specific font etc I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance.
