Opening ADs - extra inventory?
To people in US states that are opening up - do any of your ADs have any inventory? Anyone see a back log of extra inventory?
My state opens Friday and they said they'll likely open next week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

This is a post I made from another thread about a weeka go:
Our state governor allowed retail shops to open this week in Utah as long as they follow extra health rules (masks, distance, etc). The local AD was one such shop that opened so I decided to stop by and see what their situation was following the shutdown. I was interested to see if they would be eager to release something from the vault to kick-start their income, or if they maybe got some of that mystery supply that the shops in the UK were calling customers about asking for payment up front in full. Unfortunately, neither was the case. The stock in the display was sparse, to say the least. No offers to pull something from the back. The associate mentioned they hadn't received anything since March, and were waiting another couple weeks to hear from their rep in regards to what they could expect for a shipment. Hopefully there will be more available once Rolex opens back up and can begin shipping again. For now there's not much to be had in this area however. |

Rolex distribution warehouse in New York is still closed.
Rolex and ADs have had great success hiding inventory in their safes. I don’t expect that to change unless C19 and economic conditions causes many to loss interest in buying Rolex watches. |

My AD has been selling from their inventory to established customers.
When the shipping center of RolexUSA in LIC, NY opens, I’m sure desired references will be available.....but again, only to those that are deemed worthy. |

My AD is high volume and have no need to horde inventory. They are back open and have very slim inventory, no shipment since before this started. They "hope" to get a big shipment end of May but that is all dependent on New York State allowing RolexUSA's HQ and warehouse to open.

I too live in Maryland and highly doubt the AD's have any "extra" inventory. They were tight and selective before Lockdown Larry instituted his State Home Prison System and I think they will be equally selective now. There is really only one big AD left in the area anyway.

A large LA dealer is doing appointments only, and they don't have much. DD's, lady's models, other PM and some random DJ TT etc.

My AD didn’t receive a shipment during the whole of being closed for lockdown. They were expecting their first shipment end of May, but there were dependencies on that date, Rolex opening being a big one.

We should have our own list. You know, persons screen name, ad, date they put themselves on a wait list and for which watch. Now that would be a great thread.

Even a major AD in NYC has been conducting sales remotely through the quarantine. I was just catching up my sales guy there last week and he was talking about how he just stopped by to sell a customer a Hulk. Doubt he was conducting the sale in-person (probably just went in to pull the item and have it shipped).
Don't expect ADs to be sitting on hot models because they haven't been open to the public the last few months. Also recall that production has stopped, so there is going to be a period where these stores have not/will not be receiving anything/very little until that ramps back up. |

Inventory shouldn’t be thought of as an absolute concept...it should be measured relative to your revenue run-rate. In that sense, it doesn’t matter if ADs sold down a couple Subs to pay rent and utilities when the remaining balance of stock collected dust during the lockdown. Going forward, historical precedents would suggest jewelry / watches will remain soft during a recession...so, yeah there’s inventory.

I live in SE Pennsylvania and my AD emailed me the other day saying he had a Rootbeer that another customer had “ordered” but decided to pass on and it was mine if I wanted it (I passed). I asked him if he was receiving new stock shipments yet and he said no. Apparently Rolex USA distribution in NY is closed until at least the end of May so probably no shipments in our area until the beginning of June at the earliest.

No clue on inventory but imagine with so many unknowns out there we will continue to see limited models available. As this plays out we could be in a worse situation than before it started with inventory. We will see.

I doubt the AD’s are going to have any additional inventory when they open back up compared to what they had in stock when they closed pre-pandemic. If anything, they will have less inventory. A lot of the AD’s were selling what inventory they could while closed, via appointment, shipping, or curbside pickup. Given that Rolex USA was closed for almost 2 months and not shipping any watches, AD’s only had their existing inventory to sell, most likely not the high demand SS and PM sport models. I suspect AD’s will start receiving new inventory before the end of May. Available stock may be more limited this year due to the Rolex shutdown. If demand drops, which I expect it will to some degree, that may help slightly.

I would think fairly sparse pickings until shipments begin again. Hopefully, next month. The loss of production time probably will not be made up so overall the production numbers will be lower this year. The impact of that may be later this year, if there is a lot of inventory sitting ready to ship out.

The main AD in Sydney (Australia) re-opened this week. They told me they haven't received any new stock since March.
