Longest time you saved up for a Rolex?

I’ve saved up for 2 years and have about another six months to go before I have enough saved.
I’d be curious to know what’s the longest you’ve saved up before buying - actively saving and planning for a specific Rolex purchase.
Thanks.

I think I saved for like 3 years.

In my eyes that makes it even more special and more worth it

Everyone has different circumstances. Some members do not need to save, while others will be on the other end of the spectrum.

Honestly I've never "Saved" up for anything especially not a Rolex.

I focus on making money and if I can afford to buy the item I'm wanting twice over then its time to buy. Otherwise I just wont buy it.

You know the saying you cant really afford it until you can afford to buy it twice without impacting you

Agree with you here. I’ve never saved for a watch didn’t even consider looking at one untill I was in a financial position with some spare cash.

You were in a spot to buy two primary homes then, cash?

I am with you on this. If I can afford it then great. If I need to save every penny for it then I’m not in the position to buy it. There are probably more important things for the money.

Basically when I am liquid enough to buy a watch and it’s a smaller portion of my net worth I’ll go for it. Basically I sleep at night if that money is not there

Obviously lots of different perspectives due to different $ circumstances. I've saved for things. But no longer than a few months casually, as unfortunately I don't have that passion and dedication to these kind of items.

Not exactly because that would just be stupid for tax purposes but I actually had 7 houses in an investment portfolio before I even bought my first Rolex.

Saving to buy discretionary luxury items like a watch was never my plan. Focus on making money first, then just buy the watch when its time. I personally feel that if i have to save your not ready to buy.

Thats my own perspective - if you are someone that wants to save 10+ years to buy a $30k watch well all the power to you but thats not something I could or want to do.

Sorry to be the party pooper, but most people saved up and then went into an AD. The story ends at the AD. I had to buy 4 from trusted sellers on TRF.

Wow - interesting perspective here - that you can’t afforded it unless you can buy it twice. I’d consider that you can’t afford it until you have the spare cash to buy it without effecting your financial security; and if it takes some (or a lot of) time to save up that amount of cash, while you discuss and research watches as a hobby along the way, so be it.

To each his own....

I bet everyone's 1st watch (Rolex) will be their longest time saved up for luxury watch!

When I joined this forum I made a five year plan of maybe a dozen watches I wanted to buy and when and how I was going to save or move money around to do it, the plan changed every few months and it was always fun trying to make it all work within the parameters I had set, like doing a puzzle really and thus extra satisfying making it all come true.

I have never saved up for a watch, car or other item. I figure out how to get the items I want and move forward or table the purchase till I can. But I have never saved up.

All about primary expenses first.. I already had savings with no debt, then was blessed with a very nice year end bonus, and got my current watch.

My motto is..live small and save big

If you have a hobby and you have to save to buy your grail, what is the problem?, The rich people of the forum, congratulations, maybe some of you bought your watch because it is a symbol of your wealth, I think it is fabulous, others are WIS and not rich and we love mechanical watchmaking! And nobody is going to tell me how much money I have to have to buy the watch that I want, even if I have to save for it!

I save for 2 years to buy my grail.

The funny thing is that it lasts 2 years to be able to buy it and I wear it 24/7 on my wrist while the one who bought it in a second is afraid of scratching it because he spends the day thinking about the cost of reselling.

I have a friend with few resources who have a PP Calatrava on his wrist, and do not try to take it from him, it makes him happy, it is his treasure, and man is the furthest thing from being rich and I greatly enjoy talking with him about watches, is pure wisdom.

Definitely to each his own when it comes to money! I personally would never buy anything unless I could spend that amount 5 times over without effecting my finances!

This reminds me of an old thread where a member once stated that he would never purchase a Rolex without a net worth of at least one million dollars. Yet, he owned a Rolex. You can imagine how that ended.

Thanks!! An old friend and a great one indeed!
There are those who have an expensive painting because it is an investment and there are those who have it because they love art, the second sits in the afternoons to contemplate it and the first is only interested in seeing it reflected in his accounting balance, he loves the numbers.

There are some whose hobby is numbers, making money, which is fabulous, the bad thing is that they contaminate these forums with their eternal question of the value of the watch, what a bummer, let's talk about sizes and models!

40 minutes. Maybe more if I had trouble with the Wire Xfer.
