Am I the worlds unluckiest Rolex Owner?
I’m sure the majority will remember my last thread here “Is my brand new Rolex DJ ruined?” link below...
when I purchased my first ever DateJust and a couple weeks later it turned a copper looking colour after wearing it in a hot tub?! Well, a year or so on I have purchased a Brand New YG DayDate from the Rolex Shop in Dubai Mall (the 3 story one) and after a few months the watch is now making a horrific noise, it has been in the safe for a few weeks, wore it yesterday and as soon as I put it on I heard a rattle. I have attached a video so you can hear it for yourself, when the watch is operating normally there is no noise and the watch works fine. With all the ADs being closed I can’t take it to be checked properly yet so looking for your opinions. *please don’t come with bullshit saying it’s fake like the idiots on the last thread that got embarrassed when Rolex repaired it. *the sound doesn’t sound quite as bad as the video is picking up but it is pretty bad. *this hasn’t been worn near any hot tubs/pools (I’ve learnt my lesson) https://vimeo.com/422331625/45918fb115 Link to the old thread- Is my brand new Rolex DJ ruined? https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/top...ink_source=app |

What happened when you wore your watch in a hot tub?

You really should be able to wear the watch in the pool or a hot tub (just speaking to your current statement that this watch now hasn't been worn in the pool/hot tub)!

It’s not about the pool or the hot tub, this is a different watch with a different issue.

Best take it back to your shop to check the rotar or something loose inside, although I appreciate this post is more to complain.
*Please don't get angry. *Maybe hottub magnetised. |

Sorry to hear, my sympathies.
Answer to your title question is, ‘probably not’. On another thread there’s someone that has been robbed of his Rolex, twice. He’s got a better shot at the title, at least you have your watch. Hope yours can be fixed, it’ll be ok.

Yours works but needs looking at. Mine has stopped and needs looking at. I'm not going for the unluckiest in the world title. If you want it, you can have it. I'm content to wait for the AD to open. Bad timing, nothing more. Pun intended.

I haven't had any problems but I'll be honest. If I had the two issues you have, I would move on from the brand quickly.

You are unlucky!! My 18078 DD has been a work horse the last 30 odd years. In addition to your other post mine has been 100s of different hot tubs, pools, and oceans the yellow cold has not change color at all. Maybe Rolex 30 40 years ago were better made.

Just wonder if its just normal rotor sound that all ball bearing rotors have in the 32 series movements I cannot hear the video.

Think positive, just send your watch to RSC, they will solve all the problems for you.
Your previous post (DJ problem) was a good learning experience for a lots of people. |

I remember your old thread, before I was a member here. Sorry to hear about the new trouble.
Something similar happened to me a couple of months ago. I stupidly left my watch on the bedside table for my toddler to bash it against. It got a loose, rattle-y noise that the local independent watchmaker quickly fixed under mechanical warranty. It’ll work out, and you’ll quickly forget the agony and anger when the ‘honeymoon’ resumes. I would guess you are extremely unlucky in this case, if there was no trauma that caused that noise. |

I wouldn't sweat it, just take it in. Does not sound normal. Furthermore, stop shaking it!

Sounds like the rotor is loose.
That happens sometimes. Heard of one case, where the owner sent the watch in to Rolex multiple times and the rotor would come loose again after each service. Finally, he just sold the watch. |

Hi OP, I remember the hot tub post and I am so sorry you are now dealing with this. I would be so bummed if I were in your shoes and would seriously consider another brand! Truth is, Rolex is quite reliable, I have been a very happy owner for 30 years and never had issues or anything like that happen, other than routine services. I hope RSC can resolve the issue quickly and you don't have to send/visit them again for at least 10 years!

There have been many posts on forum about rotor noise on the 32 series movements but this is quite normal for this movement. This is mainly because it uses a ball-bearing rotor which are quite a bit nosier than the 31 series sleeve rotors. Now myself cannot hear the video sound on my laptop even at full volume but I do wear two hearing aids.

Yeah, doesn't sound good. I'd hack it and leave it in the safe until you can take it in.
