Amazon Kindle Case Magnets: Is It Safe?

I was wondering if anyone knows if the magnets in Amazon Kindle cases are safe to use with mechanical watches. Before I bought my Tudor BB58, I replaced my Kindle case with a zippered case because I was worried about magnetization. I thought holding the case with the magnetic closure right next to my watch for long periods of time -- sometimes hours at a time -- made this risky. Now I'm thinking this decision was overkill, as the gauss strength of a small magnetic closure cannot be that high. What do you think? Is it safe?

Your Tudor BB58 with in house movement has a silicon hairspring which is essentially an amagnetic material. It won’t be affected by magnets like a vintage watch would.

Thanks. That's good to know. I thought it might have had a silicon hairspring -- that makes me like the watch even more!

I still wouldn’t take it near an MRI though

Here is a great article by Timeless that covers the Tudor MT5621. The first in house movement by Tudor in 2015 that is found in the Tudor North Flag.

https://timelessluxwatches.com/revie...h-flag-review/

The MT5402 in your BB58 is derived from the original in house movement and is essentially the same thing, sans power reserve and date function thus smaller in size.

Thanks. I just read the article. It sounds like a great movement. That article should be required reading for all the Tudor haters on this site.

Naturally, you’d expect Rolex to save all the best technology for itself and give Tudor something less impressive to help maintain its superior position. This is not, however, what occurred. The MT5621 is, in my opinion, more advanced than most, if not all, Rolex movements, with the possible exception of the new 3255. ...Suffice it to say, at least for men’s watches, Tudor beats Rolex to the punch in hairspring technology. ...Actually, let me make a bold claim here: in my opinion, this is probably the single best movement under $4,000. I’ll make another while I’m at it: it’s better than most current Rolex movements too.

Today the Swiss standard test to be called anti-magnetic watches which most all Swiss watches are today, they have to pass a test including all Rolex. This is to withstand a strong magnetic field of 4800 Amps per meter, and to keeps on running with a maximum deviation of 15- 30 seconds per day.Now this test I am 100% sure that 95% of all watch wearers would never subject or come into contact with such a strong magnetic field. And if any watch gets magnetised its a very simple process to de-magnetise, and very rare the whole movement has to be stripped for all the movement parts to be de-magnetised.

Now that I have a Rolex, I am wondering about the safety of using one of these magnetic Kindle cases right next to my Rolex with 3235 movement. I think padi56 covered this in his reply, but I was wondering if I could get more confirmation.

My 20yo sub is not affected by magnets in phone cases or similar. My Nomos with its glass back super slim case also gives no trouble.

Imagjne the internet lore if every time someone's new rolex went near a phone case or small magnet they broke. It's a non issue.

I would most certainly doubt that with MRI machines pushing from 5,000 to 30,000 gauss. But in the real world if, and big if, any Rolex watch did get magnetised it's a very very simple process to demagnetise.

Amazon Kindle Case Magnets: Is It Safe?

I recently picked up a new Kindle Oasis; really loving it with the magnetic closing leather cover as well. It's a great way to read. Also it can play Audible books through blue tooth. FWIW, I'd know the impact and the fix is already available as watch demagnetizers are cheap and readily available.

Most Rolex watches after 2007-10 should be absolutely fine

Some other brands like speedmasters are a little more susceptible but only if you stuck the watch on the case overnight.

But even still, it’s a very simple and cheap fix you can do yourself. With no damage.
