Coffee and Rolex

Next to collecting Rolex, my hobby is brewing my own coffee.

Every year or so I make a trip to Jamaica to stock up on my Blue Mountain coffee beans.

Every morning (when I’m home) i look forward to my home brewed cup of coffee.

I have Breville Dual boiler and Breville coffee grinder.

Wondering if any of my fellow TRFers Coffee are nerds too and what’s you equipment and favourite beans?

I like coffee and I like Rolex! My extent of brewing is a great french press made when I got extra time in the AM!

Must be nice to wake up to home espresso. I’m a bit of a coffee nerd; worked at a boutique roastery for several years (as a barista, assisting the roaster). I really loved the job, except it paid terribly and was physically quite taxing, so when we had our first kid, I got out of the game and became a bureaucrat.

I keep it simple at home, and make lots of pourover-style filter coffee. I used a Lido 2 handgrinder, digital scale from Market Lane in Melbourne, and buy lots of different beans from various roasters as there are so many around Brisbane now. The one constant is a fortnightly bag posted up from Market Lane; they buy and roast very high quality green beans, always from somewhere different. My favourites are usually from the Sidamo region of Ethiopia (taste like a Cherry Ripe bar).

Quite a few coffee fans ‘round here; there’s a semi-regularly updated ‘Coffee Lovers Thread’ in the Open Discussion section you might like to check in on from time-to-time, currently hiding several pages deep.

Aeropress or V60 for me. Currently addicted to two medium roasts, one from Guatemala one from Peru, both single origin.

Looking to get a La Pavoni lever machine and Kinu manual grinder soon

Great looking options. Keen to hear how you get on with the Kinu if you end up using it for the filter stuff too. I’m a V60 and occasional Aeropresser also. I really appreciated stepping up from a Porlex handgrinder to a Lido, but am pushing the Lido to its limit in setting it as coarsely as it goes without coming apart; my personal preference for best extraction with V60... I mean, it’s not overly coarse, but I do wish it would go a little coarser sometimes. Still, it’s been a great improvement for the pourovers. Very consistent grind.

Nice thread and great watch pix.

How I wish but no, it’s an unfulfilled passion still. Likely when our daughter leaves for uni next year, my wife will finally allow me to indulge in yet another passion project until then it’s convenience over passion for the 4-a-day habit.

I use an Aeropress, electric kettle and a thermometer with my good beans. Simple is better for me.

Other than that, my wife and I make weekend trips to the local coffee shops.

Lucca M58, which is a modified QuickMill something or other for Clive Coffee. Dual-boiler (stainless), PID-controlled, rotary pump.

Grinder is a Eureka Atom.

Low decibels was/ is a priority. And with this setup, despite being in a 3 bedroom, single story house, I can make my espresso at any hour without disturbing the peace.

I don’t have nearly enough shots including my coffee

At home with my sage (breville I think in the USA) barista pro - plus a nice 18g dose of coffee masters signature blend beans

And out, a double espresso from coffee #1

I have a pour over set up. Sadly I do not have a grinder so I have been buying cheap ground coffee. I am planning to get a grinder soon so I can brew some good coffee.

My favorite. Everyday while I'm at home for the past 15 years. Brewed from a simple Cuisinart Coffer Maker.

Lucca is great. I love coffee too and while coffee beans are very important, coffee machine adds the punch. I have Jura machine.

I enjoy a few espresso drinks daily. My gear includes a Londinium 1 lever machine and a Kafatek Monolith conical grinder. I love this setup, with some love and maintenance it will outlast me. For beans, I buy roasted whole bean from Caffe Lusso out of Washington state. They roast it when your order processes and two days later it’s at your front door.
