The first battle scar...

The first battle scar is always the hardest to accept on a brand new week old watch, especially when you don’t know what caused it. Grrrr. C’est la vie!

I wear my watches and will certainly see more along the way on this beautiful CHNR Rootbeer.

That is a pretty good scratch, you must have hit it on something hard.

On the protected side too! It comes naturally when one wears and enjoys their watch. Glad to hear you’re moving on and will continue to wear your Rolex

May I suggest you try to think about what happened? Because the idea that you didn't even notice that it happened could be BAD NEWS for future nicks... especially if it's an activity that you do all the time and don't think about.

Hey, look at it this way: now you're past that stage that you're terrified to even wear it. Now you can really SQUEEZE the juice out of this watch!! kind of like getting that first ding on a car: you'll get over it. Get in there and drive that car though! Enjoy the HECK out of that watch, fearlessly now!

Thanks for sharing OP. Mine has a few scratches on its own. It's funny how many people cringe at it and can't accept scratches. Wear it in good health and it's great to see a watch being put to good use!

Ouch. You’re taking it well, that’s great.

Not knowing what caused it, would bother me more than the actual scar.

Too many people walk around with this idea that nothing but purified air should touch a luxury timepiece. Sad.

If it can handle 2 miles down in the ocean, it can handle a scratch on one of the lugs.

Looks like something hit and slid off it. Agree you should retrace what you've been upto. You don't want a watch full of those.

The scratch looks worse in the photo than it truly is. I’m sure it would buff out if desired.

Yes. Been trying to think about what could have caused it given I didn’t notice it. We do have an 8 month old lab puppy. Perhaps a puppy tooth hit the watch when grabbing for a toy from my hand?

Other than that...sitting at home during COVID.....so not doing anything too hard yet. Although, it has been on my wrist since I got it.

Love the Rootbeer watch scratch or no scratch!! Grilling with it tonight!

Don't get it polished yet. wait for the eventual 5 or 10 year service.
scratches are part of watch's life. You'll get used to it.

I remember my first on the 16600. I instructed RSC not to polish anything. Every nick and ding tells a story whether you recall how it happened or not. Don’t think of it as damaged. Think of it as loved.

Rolex. It doesn’t just tell time...

Fine scratches come through wearing ,but that's larger.Have it buffed out .(Keep the edge of the casing sharp .When buffed the sharp edge should not be rounded.)

I am on the 'nope' end of the 'polish' spectrum from many folk.

To me it would be abhorrent to have any scratches on my watches polished out. (Gonna get more of 'em anyhoo!)

But I can understand how a large scratch would upset many others.

Polished areas scratch very easily. In fact, you could probably scratch them with a fingernail, so the puppy tooth theory is entirely plausible.
