Watch skin irritations

Hi all, looking for some help. Just bought my wife a 16610 submariner as a replacement for her omega sea master (I think 34mm) that is too small for liking.

After 2 days of wearing the watch she has developed a skin irritation on her wrist under the watch case.

Has anyone had a problem like this previously? It’s not the watch as she has suffered similar issues previously but her other watches were much smaller and the reactions were not that severe.

Hoping someone has some advice.

Yup, Rolex and nickel content has been a issue for some. Get her a Omega SMP or a Omega titanium model as titanium is hypoallergenic.

My wife also can’t wear some metals. Even gold bothers her.

Sorry to hear that. Easy fix it would seem, just put some kind of adhesive on the back of the watch. Simple tape will do and the metal will no longer contact the skin there.

We managed to locate 3M tape with the red stripe that RSC’s seem to use. We might give that a try.

Maybe that’s the reason Rolex puts the green sticker on the case back

Try a coating of Hard As Nails clear nail polish. I used to use this stuff in military school to coat my brass after a shine. It held up the longest over other options so I got to think it might work for this too. And it is reversale.

Sorry about your wifes maybe problem like all metals some could cause problems some people cannot wear gold. The main and only difference between 316L over 904L it has slightly more Molybdenum(Mo)approx 2% more, approx 1-2% more Crome(Cr), 1% copper(Cu), and approx 10% more nickel and thats it.And in 95% of cases where customers have complained about rashes they disappear after a thorough cleaning of the bracelet in good old soap and water. It's not that important how much nickel is inside of the alloy, all what counts is what amount of nickel thats released from the alloy under the influence of sweat for example. And the way the alloy is made a Rolex releases very very little nickel content on many tests over the years since 904L was introduced, less than many that use 316L SS.She could wear the watch on a strap or even use tape on inside bracelet and case back but myself believe perhaps you should seek help from a dermatologist to see if your wife do have a real allergy problem if rash continues after washing watch etc.

It happened to me and within a month it had disappeared. The skin gets used to it.

It also helps to change all soaps and laundry detergents to unscented and install a reverse osmosis system for your tap and shower water.

Having always been a watch guy and way before I could afford a Rolex I purchased the then "Newest Thing", a Accutron. Broke out like poison ivy. Switching to my other wrist same same. I always assumed it was the battery never occurred to me it could have been the metal.

The Submariner 16800 is made of 316L stainless steel

One solution would be a change from 16610 to 16800

I thought I wrote a reply but I apparently didn't hit the "post" button.

If she was wearing an Omega stainless watch I really wonder what the difference between the two watches was?

Transparent sticker to the back of the watch case.

Or swap it to those nylon straps with leather behind the watch case. They're pretty comfortable

No difference to be honest. The omega was smaller and she also needed to put tape under that but the size was smaller and caused much less irritation
