Collapsed BB58 pearl lume?
Hi all,
I’m fairly new to this hobby and looking for a little advice. I bought my bb58 last July. It has been well looked after as the images will show below. I tend to wear my ceramic Seamaster daily as a bit of a beater so the Tudor only gets worn from time to time. I noticed today whilst looking at it that the Lume in the pearl at 12 o’clock looks like it has sunken. Am I just being silly or does this look the case? Any help is greatly appreciated. I’ve seen a couple of instances of the same issue on other forums.
Your watch should be under warranty so I would advise taking it to your AD for inspection and repair. If the watch is in good condition with no obvious signs of damage then hopefully it will be covered. It might be a little bit of a gray area however, and it’s possible the AD may argue you have inadvertently knocked it. Good luck |

The pearl on the ETA Heritage BB was the same. Bugged me so bad.

Thanks for the help everyone. I will take it into the AD and see what they say. Gives me a bit of piece of mind that some of you have the same issue. Might aswell get it looked at as it’s only 1 year old. I’ve added a few extra images below incase anyone else wants to comment if they have raised this with their AD.

Well if its anything like the pearl on the Rolex range in the real world the pearl is just a blob of luminous paint covered with a thin sapphire dome.

Being recessed also protects it from knock damage.

It sits recessed normally but not as recessed as mines unfortunately. I have added pictures from when I first got mines. As you can see it looks like it’s collapsed and fallen back towards the insert.

I had the issue on my 79220R, and had it fixed under warranty. My BB58 has the same issue. Don't know if I intend to fix it as it does not bother me.
But I'd love to see some of the expert opinions on it if will do more damage by leaving it like this. If it will do more damage if I leave it alone, then I'll fix it. If it won't get worse, I'll leave it alone. |

I have one of the first BBs from 2012 and the pip lume has always been recessed and flat. I don't think it was ever convex and/or pearl-shaped.

I think this might be common.
My BB58's pearl/pip is the exact same. Recessed, looks like it's "Fallen-in". It still gives off luminescence, although at times I feel not as bright. Certainly not as vivid as the hands or hour markers. Mine has a warranty dated Dec. 2019 and I bought it new in March 2020. It doesn't bother me and I don't intend to send it off for repair through the warranty. I only notice it when I stop to think about it. Most of the time I am either too distracted by all the other beautiful elements of this watch, or I forget that I'm wearing the watch because it's so comfortable and just melts on wrist. Perfect dimensions and nice slim profile. |

Just giving you all an update on what the outcome of this was. I took the watch back to my AD and they sent it off to the Rolex service centre. The RSC replaced the full bezel insert, pip and lume free of charge under warranty. They also serviced the watch as a spec of dust was found under the crystal. I honestly couldn’t be happier. They only had it 3 1/2 weeks which is pretty quick.
