14060 bezel question

Looking at a sub 14060 w. Is it normal for the bezel to fade from black to blue?

The old bezels do fade. It's called patina.

The bezel is probably faded to a blue-ish color.
Does it looks something like the bezel insert of the picture below?

Those bezel inserts are often called a ghost bezel insert.

Would suspect that insert has been artificially aged on purpose, but like most things expose to high UV light most all things painted will fade, simple answer get a new insert cost around $65 direct from Rolex..

Anybody any idea on the average length of time this takes? Appreciate there's loads of factors to consider, exposure to UV etc.

Yes that’s exactly what it looks like. Is that considered a good thing in a semi-vintage Sub?

Well my own working tool watch 1999 SD has seen a lot of use and abuse in both salt and fresh water, with well over 600 hours underwater in very strong sunlight when on surface. And in many countries world wide and still looks black today just a few surface scratches. Most black inserts that change colour today are mostly artificially aged, now the Pepsi aluminium inserts used to fade after many many years of use.

Yes my bezel from my 16610 has a blue tinge to it. Looks black in most lights though

The bezel on my 1996 14060 is still black after almost daily wear. It´s not been babied over the years, and the bezel just has a few scratches and some scuff marks, but honestly you have to use a lupe to see them!

My SD has seen daily wear for about 13/14 years, still black. By the look of the responses it must take a long time to happen naturally. Maybe the coatings have improved over the years
