Is this a rare 'scratch across the bottom line C' variant dial?

It's mostly a hand assembled watch and everything is checked by human eyes. People make mistakes...

Warranty claim on dial
Quote:
Of course, but that’s a lot easier to forgive when it’s someone else’s watch! However that’s what a no quibble warranty is for, and especially from a company that will sort it with absolutely no fuss. |

Rolex uses a lot of robotics and sophisticated technology--its not some old world watch company that puts every piece together by hand. Maybe it could use the technology to detect things like scratched dials. Accidents like this shouldn't happen on a watch this expensive. It should be visually checked enough times that things like this are caught.

Good on Rolex for standing behind the warranty.

2. The dial is fully functional and is simply not 100% aesthetically perfect. Any brand would be within their rights to say it is within their manufacturing tolerance (keeping in mind terms like ‘flawless’ and ‘perfection’ are marketing puffery so cannot be reasonably expected or demanded). That is not what Rolex have done. So it does deserve respect. This is a small part of what contributes to Rolex’s well deserved reputation. They are not duty bound to give you diddly squat for an aesthetic flaw. (Especially a flaw that was clearly visible at the time you elected to purchase the watch) |

Finally the Sky D came back after almost 3 weeks. The process is fast and efficient. No opportunity to chat with the ladies over the counter as they are busy with backlog from the recent lockdown. There were a few customers waiting for their turn. The case seems to have received a light buff which looks shinier than before.

I meant no quibble in that Rolex doesn’t usually make a fuss. However, this is a manufacturing defect and Rolex warranties against “faulty workmanship” irrespective whether it’s cosmetic or functional. The fact it wasn’t noticed at the time of purchase is totally irrelevant. If a faulty movement part had been fitted that wouldn’t have even been visible at all. So I stand by the fact that Rolex doesn’t deserve special praise for this at all. They are just doing exactly what they’ve always done which is simply preserving their reputation first and foremost. And there’s nothing wrong with that. |

There is no ‘perfect’, which means a line has to be drawn somewhere. And many brands would not replace that dial as it would fall within ‘their standards’. So again I say it speaks to their credit that they do cover such imperfections, instead of saying “that’s how we make ‘em and it was visible when you bought it”. |

See-through Hand?
Referring back to the original post of the defective dial with picture, how is it that you can read the text under the hand? Looks like the lume is missing too.
