Where to remove links? - Oyster
The AD I purchased from recommended removing from the 6 o'clock side. I have one link removed. Currently there are 7 full links (4 removable) on the 12 o'clock side and 4 on the 6 o'clock side one remaining that may be removed. The clasp is not centered on the underside of my wrist.
The watch feels very comfortable, this is more just my OCD coming out. Wondering if when he removed the second link, and then put it back if it was possibly returned to the wrong side. What is the factory configuration? Am I over thinking? Thanks |

The AD recently sized my Sub Date in a very similar way, going back in tomorrow when the watchmaker is in to have it adjusted. Will let you know what they say.

It depends on what bracelet it is, but usually its the 'B' links from the 12h side.

From your picture, I think you have to move one link from 12 o'clock side to 6 o'clock side, so you will have 6 links on 12 o'clock side and 5 links on 6 o'clock side.
Follow James's advise should be the way to go. |

How big is your wrist?
Mines 7” flat and I have 6 at 12 o’clock and 4 at 6 o’clock. I’d move one from the 12 o’clock side to the 6 o’clock side and start from there. |

Rough measurement is 7.25”. Appreciate the input, I’ll try moving one from 12h to 6h side for slightly more symmetry.

Yep, you need to move one link from the 12:00 side to the 6:00 side. Should center the clasp on the underneath side of your wrist well. I'm sure you're AD will do for you in a heartbeat if you're not feeling a DIY job. Good luck!

I have a 7'' wrist, flat.
I have 4 links at 6 o'clock, 6 links at 12 o'clock (diver extension removed), and i'm at 75% slided in the glidelock. The clasp is off-center of about the half of a link, but that is the most comfortable for me. I tried having an additional half-link at 6 and removing a full-link from 12, that was less comfortable. |

Wearing it comfortably is what you want, not some notion that there needs to be x links on one side and z links on the other. You should always start removing links from the 6 side, just as your Dealer did.... the 12 side should always have more links.

Every wrist is different. I ended up with 5&5 on both by YM and GMT. I would take it for another fitting and just experiment until it looks and feels right.

My 16610 has 8 links at 12:00, and 5 at 6:00. When I hold it up and dangle it as in your picture, it does look odd. But when I wear the watch, whether tight or loose, it's completely balanced, and the clasp centers perfectly. My watch was very comfortable at 7/6, but it's incredible at 8/5, where both head and clasp just naturally migrate to the right place and stay there. Most of us seem to need a lot more length on the outside.
But every wrist is different. I've noticed that people with smaller wrists need to fight harder for clasp placement. They can't easily remove the permanent links, so they're more likely to have symmetrical link counts, and to wear their watches down against the back of the hand where there's less asymmetry. Your wrist is large enough so that you shouldn't need to fight very hard to get comfort and balance.

I’m also 7.25” and my oysters are 6 links on the 12 o’clock side and 5 links on the 6 o’clock side. Perfectly centers the clasp. YMMV

My AD adjusted my 16570 in the exact opposite way, and I love it. I actually had 8 links on the 12 side and 5 on the 6 side (including bracelet attachment link on both sides) to start with and it fit perfect indoors, but as soon as I went outside in this heat I needed some extra room (was out of micro adjustments on the clasp), so I added a link back into the 6 side, and now I'm 8/6 favoring the 12 side.
My 16622 came set up similarly with a slightly different bracelet and love it, too: 9 links (counting the full attachment link) on the 12 and 5.5 (counting the 1/2 link bracelet attachment) on the 6. Favoring the 12 side tends to keep the watch head from rolling over the back of the wrist. |

The 12 side should have more links. Wearing it comfortable is most important

I ended up buying a half link for my Daytona and putting it on the 6:00 side. So now it’s 41/2 at 6:00 and 7 links at 12:00. Wait, I’m not done.....the ez link is folded in and the clasp pin is set to the tightest hole. It gave me the perfect fit and having the two links under the clasp gives it a good weight balance.

TRF is such a great resource. Thank you. For the moment, I am leaving alone. It's comfortable, and the inner clasp (when folded) seems to be centered on the under side of my wrist. I have a set of hollow ground screwdrivers, but haven't pulled them out to see if I have one that will fit. I don't want to risk peening the screw, so will likely stop at AD next time I am around. It actually looks like one of the screws the dealer adjusted is peened a bit. You can see portions of the screw, where the screwdriver contacts the sidewall, sitting proud of the bracelet ever so slightly. I’ll get over it, but don’t want to make the same mistake or exacerbate the situation.

Side question: Doesn't the unsymmetrical positioning which makes the 12 o'clock side a bit longer intend to put less contact between the clasp and the table/laptop...? Whenever my wrist lays when writing or typing on my computer or simply resting my hand on a table, it lays a bit turned to the outside (the upper hand side that is).
If this is true, I guess I'd have an oyster link between my wrist and table rather than the clasp. I might be the weird guy here hahaha. Best, P. |
