Airport hot SS

I'd love to hear stories from anyone who's been lucky enough to walk into an Airport and nab a hot SS (Hulk, Batman etc)

I flew out from Heathrow 4 times last year and not a sniff, plus my son is a retail project manager at Heathrow and I thought that would have the influence to source but even that wasn’t enough, he tried in every terminal.

Two years ago, a half hour before boarding I was wandering shops and found a black GMT. It was on a gentleman's wrist, though, and my strong moral compass deterred me from nabbing it

In 2017 at Dubai Airport there was a Black Sub date & no date aswell as a sea dweller. I believe they also had a Hulk. Them times there I was just content with the one watch I had (116610lv)

Commendable restraint

I was in Zante, Greece airport a few years back and it was pretty hot. Mainly due to the fact that they didn't have an indoor check in facility and i was melting away in the heat outside. Not even a SS roof to give me some shade.

Not true. I know a BLNR 116710 and a Submariner 116610 bought by travelers through DXB and an LVC bought by a traveler through Schipol. Although, that was a year or two ago.

We have to remember that not every buyer runs to the internet to start a thread on his purchase. I suspect many are sold and the wis community will remain oblivious to it.

An airport purchase is literally a luck of the draw and timing. Would be such a cool purchase.

Someone on here picked up a SS Daytona C white dial at the Rolex AD in Bangkok a few years back. Apparently they had a black and white dial there at the same time.

Last time I saw a ss sports watch at an airport was an Explorer, one year ago at Orly for 5.5k.

HK airport used to have a pretty good selection at least in mid-late 2018/early 2019. I saw 1 no date sub, 1 SD43, couple explorers, 1 SS skydeweller and few TT sports models in the case. Almost picked up the skydeweller.

A friend of mine picked up a Batman in December 2018 from Dubai Airport fully stickered with warranty card etc flew to Saudi, brought it back to Dubai then ended up selling it to Watchfinder in the UK when he came to visit in January 2019 after I passed on the purchase (wrong timing for me)...oh how I regret it!

I have a friend who picked up a SD43 and a Hulk from HK airport earlier this year.

My local airport has a Rolex AD and you generally can't get any SS professional models as they are pre-assigned to customer. Those who get the call just do a quick day-trip to Australia to pick up their watch on departure as the cost of the airfare is usually far outweighed by the savings in GST.

Airport hot SS

In December of 2018 my sister was passing through Charles De Gaulle airport and she told the lady that I like Rolex but has no idea of what model I would want. So she Face Timed me and the associate pulled out a Sub, Sub Date, Hulk, GMT LN, SD43, and a James Cameron Deep Blue. I ended up buying the Deepsea. And it wasn’t a Rolex store, it was a jewelry store.

Hasn’t happened for me since 2017, but those were the glory days before ss watches were so hard to find. Bought a new sub at a discount in Aruba and it wasn’t even hard to get. Their cases were full of ss including gmt and the rest of the hype pieces.

White dial SS Sky-Dweller in Bangkok, November 18. SS Submariner in Singapore, July 2020.

BTW, the Hong Kong airport Rolex shop is now a Chanel Store- whenever they open back up.

The last SS I scored was a Batman back in Feb 2017, Dubai Duty Free. The salesperson informed me I missed a Daytona by 15mins...LOL

Since then, have not see any hot SS model in DXB. But I've heard they still pop-up, but unfortunately I've not lucked out since.
