Make Me Want The Explorer I

I'm ready to pull the trigger, but I'm nervous that I'm going to grow to hate the 39mm size.

I've been a 40-41 wearer my whole life, but the simplicity of the EX1 is making me crazy!

If you got some recent wrist shot photos, would you care to share?

THANKS!

- Kyle

Don’t worry about it feeling much smaller than a 40-41mm. With the reduced bezel, the dial is large and wears like a 40mm. It’s a great watch. Everything that you need and nothing that you don’t. (My wrist is a hair under 7”.)

By 40-41 wearer, do you mean that you've worn pretty much 40-41 rotating bezel watches (diver or GMT) all your life? If so, I don't think adjusting to the Exp will be a problem from a size perspective...it's a different type of beast than the rotating bezel sports watches. In fact, during the previous Rolex era when 40 mm rotating bezel watches were the norm, the Exp was 36 mm. It's meant to feel different from the divers.

This exactly!

It plays an illusion as it appears larger than 39 due to dial proportions.

I think it is a maturity thing (or simply preferences). If you want to be noticed, this is not the watch for you. However, it is as perfect as a Rolex gets. The dial proportions can be debated, but given your concerns it is a benefit as mentioned above.

I debate daily, trading my sub in for one. It is a truly special watch. Only thing stopping me is glidelock (and to some degree ceramic bezel).

here OP...

this watch is full of hidden messaging.

3/6/9 and the inverted triangle... Nichola Tesla and the 'key to the universe', Vortex mathematics, and the 'Golden Ratio'.

Funny enough, I just got mine yesterday haha. Havent made a post yet but so far I am loving it, its so clean and simple and its so much more beautiful in person. Not sure if it helps but I been wearing a Seiko skx 009 and have transitioned flawlessly to the Exp I

I have a safe full of watches I don't wear because the Explorer is always on the wrist. I have a large wrist (6 links on each side) and I feel it looks size appropriate.

Get it, you won’t be disappointed. It wears bigger than its specs.

I’ve been a Speedmaster wearer but I want something more rugged. I also live by the water so I want to be able to just leave the damn thing on all day not worrying about getting it wet....

These......the reason for the watch itself! Exploration, its history and those who've donned versions of it before.

I can’t wear that case size but if I had to do so I would start wearing a smaller watch line 36 just to get my eyes used to the smaller size. Once ok with it jump on 39mm and you’ll most probably feel it’s ok.

As stated, the dial is bigger than other sports models, even though is "only" 39mm. In fact, I am sitting here comparing my Explorer to my 41mm DJ II, and the dials look to be the exactly the same size. Photo compares Explorer to two 41mm models.

BTW, it's an "Explorer", not an "Explorer I". You will want to know that when you own one!

I guess I’ll be that guy then. If size is already a concern, go try it on.

I have never owned an Explorer, but my experience has been watches with plain bezels wear smaller than advertised (relative to watches with rotating bezels). Perhaps it’s my eyes, because everyone says watches that are “all dial” wear larger than their measurements. That just hasn’t been my experience.

My 40mm Sinn wears smaller than its size indicates, as did my 41mm Aqua Terra (which is a main factor in why I sold it). I have a 7.25in wrist for reference. 40mm is my low end, 42mm is just about perfect.

The Exp really is an awesome looking watch. I love looking at the pics people post, and I love the idea and simplicity of the watch, but 39mm and no date are just a no-go for me.

Try it on, hold the watch down at your side and look in a mirror. If it wears too small, it’ll be obvious pretty much immediately. If not, fire away!

It will NOT feel too small. It’s design makes it look very big for a non turning bezel Rolex.

I sold it for that reason, too big and I was used to the 36mm version. Buy now because in September they might release a new version that is more svelte.
