EXPOSED - Grey Dealer Spills the Beans on ADs?
Great video. A photographer is confronted outside a grey dealer about the possibility of capturing serial numbers of Rolex pieces.
The owner invites him in and explains how ADs sell to brokers who funnel the watches for resale on the secondary market. https://youtu.be/HP-0ZedYzMs |

I had to watch the video twice to understand but WOW... really sheds light on the predatory nature of the grey market. Really pitiful for honest customers who just want to get a legitimate Rolex from AD.

Not sure if this applies to the hot models though. I doubt ADs have a problem selling those.

This is great. I guess this pretty much confirms everything we already knew. So much for the watches being hard to get, they are just sitting in this guys shop window.

That's interesting, video sheds a good light on how the broker - dealer relationship works. Thanks for sharing.

IF Rolex really wanted to crack down on this (but we all know they don’t)...
They could hire an auditing firm to visit a few hundred big grey dealers, capture serial numbers of a few thousand watches, and easily get a list of the top 50 offending ADs. If you trace dozens of new watches back to a single AD, you can reasonably surmise those guys are funneling bundled inventory to brokers — instead of real customers. Relatively easy thing to do... if they considered it an actual issue. ;) |

SECURITY ENFORCING POLICY ON THE SIDEWALK - SANTA FE, NM? Not the video I was expecting. Oh I see, I've got to wait till it comes around.

Trouble is the AD's have to package the high demand SS pieces to entice the greys to also take the slow moving pieces that Rolex ships to them.

It just confirms what everyone knows and yet so many here choose to ignore, not sure why so.
I'm all for a free market and a properly functioning capitalism but business ethics have gone to hell with this one. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. But that's not the worst. Because people would normally walk away from a shitty deal. The problem is when they won't. |

I must be missing something. I don't see what the problem is. If a dealer can off load their watches to a grey dealers and make more money, more power to them. If you want a Rolex, you can wait in a line, or simply pay the going price for the watch from the grey dealers.
Anyway, I think this is reasonable. But then I am not obsessed with Rolex and getting them at a reduce AD price. For the record, even though I say I am not obsessed, I do have two new Oyster Perpetuals and 6 1950s vintage. So some might say I too am obsessed. |

This isn’t news,
AD gets shipments, certain models won’t sell fast at all, so the hot ones go out the back door to offset those expenses and make some $$, but keep a few in house. Bundle the left over hot models in house with the slow movers to your “VIP” clients and now your making even more money. This is why the normal guy walking in trying to get a SS Daytona or Pepsi will hardly ever get one without spending more on the slow movers and PM watches. Sure there are stories of people getting lucky but that’s far and few in between. We knew this all along, Rolex watches go only to AD’s so where are all the greys getting them?
