Nato strap for Red Sub 1680
Since joining this site and reading various posts I fancy fitting a Nato strap to my 73 Red Sub.
What and where do I buy,I know colour is subjective but what do you recommend, tan or black. Are there such things as Genuine Nato straps produced by approved military spec suppliers such as say Randolph sunglasses for the U.S military? |

I like the look of a medium to dark gray or a grayish blue nato on a sub. Post a pic of the watch and we can help you find the perfect color.

I’ve purchased several nato straps from cheapest auto straps.com, and I’ve compared them to genuine Omega nato straps as well as other, higher priced alternatives. I continue to buy from cheapestnatostraps.com. They have a great selection, their prices are very inexpensive and I trust my vintage watches to them without hesitation. One thing I would always do is replace my springbars with new ones....I prefer the 2.5mm Seiko thick springbars, but that is just me...I like the beefier bars when wearing a nato strap.
Good luck, the world is your oyster...I can tell you from experience that a shell cordovan nato looks very much at home on a 1680...but I also like the admiralty grey ones, as well as any strap that might have a hint of red which would play off the red of your dial nicely. This is not the typical nylon NATO strap but I like this leather Ralph Lauren RRL strap.

In my opinion, a Submariner carrying a NATO should be made of nylon. A diver has to have the appearance of being able to get wet, whether or not you do it for safety reasons as it is a vintage.

I looked at that strap. It looks beautiful. Is it worth the premium over other straps?

Just buy a bunch of 10-dollar ones and see what you prefer. Once you figure out what you like, then invest in a super-quality version.
For me it's a brown leather NATO from Bulang & Sons (no affiliation). Not a big fan of the fabric ones. |

I like Crown and Buckle premium natos. They last a long time. For me, it's Admiralty Grey for the color choice.

Does anybody know if Phoenix, an original Nato supplier is still trading/ manufacturing in Wales? I found a number on Well but nobody ever answers.
Is the Phoenix supplier that trades out of Coventry the same supplier? |
