Should I proceed with this trade?

Hi All,

Long time lurker, new poster. Question for everyone. I have a K serial Rolex Kermit. Unpolished, great condition. One of my favorite watches. I have the opportunity to trade it for a 1971 all original 5513. One owner 5513, been serviced by Rolex once, but dial is original as are hands. What say you? Would you consider the trade or hang on to the Kermit?

It sounds fair from a price wise...I know more about 5513 values than kermits but I believe they are relatively close.
Are you going to wear it or is this a future value play?
If a 'wearer' it really boils down to preference of 4 digit size case v 5 digit and whether you care about the date and splash of green.

I think you stay with the Kermit. They've spiked massively lately, and as you've observed, you love it.

It's a wearer. I wear pretty much all my watches. I think I would actually prefer the 5513 simply because I like no date and am drawn to the vintage era more since I have plenty of modern pieces. I'm getting a chance to look at the 5513 in person tomorrow so I'll know more then!

I can't possibly opine without photos of the 5513.

Pass. The Kermit will do what it has been doing for the past few years, it isn't going down.

Value aside, I like dates.
Value integrated...unfortunately as I have a 1967 5513 I have seen prices seem to level off while The Kermit seems to be THE 5 digit watch...
No one even asked if you have a flat four bezel, but those seem to add a few k in value.

I’m guessing that you’ve already started considering getting rid of the Kermit. Otherwise you wouldn’t have posted here. And I f that’s the case, by all means, get what you really want.
5513s are awesome, by the way.

Yes, I'd do it, assuming the 5513 is a stellar example. I've owned the 16610LV (twice). Nice watch, but you gotta love that green on your wrist. And it's definitely got a modern feel with that maxi dial.

Longterm, I believe the 5513 has more upside as a true classic vintage Rolex, but more importantly, it's just cooler, IMHO. If you're more of a vintage watch lover, it's an easy decision. If you're simply concerned with the value of a watch, then it becomes a little murkier.

Green is my favorite color, so I do like the Kermit, but honestly, I just don't get "that" feeling while wearing it. I have a Sub C and have the Kermit, so that's two modern examples right now. I'll never get rid of the Sub C due to sentimental reasons, but I have no attachment to the Kermit other than it's a cool watch. I'll have to see the 5513 in person and go from there. I've been building my vintage collection a bit recently, with a Bulova super compressor and a seiko Willard, so thinking a vintage sub will work well.

I don't buy any watches to simply sit and appreciate in value, so I'm not too concerned about the Kermit going up and the 5513 leveling off. Guess I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Post photos of the 5513 for community feedback. Can't advise otherwise.

I'm happy with all my trades to date and have some nice modern PM models now and a balance of vintage. But really miss my 76100 blue lollipop, 1675 small arrow, 1680, and 5513. Oh and my Sigma Bkue Datejust. Time to add back to my vintage collection.

Based on the photos, I'd do the trade.

If its a nice 5513 I would do it. I own both but would sooner give up the LV if push came to shove.

Rolex 16610LV

Rolex did not make the Kermit in the K serial numbers so I assume it was a typo. The first one was in the Y serial numbers.

Did you notice that ALL the comments stopped when you changed the serial number to the "D"?

As Michael pointed out initially, the "K" would have been 2002, and the Kermit was introduced in 2003 (the Anniversary, after all!!).

The Mark 1 (Flat 4, with Bertoli green) were the "Y" and "F" (some), and those have values pushing well over $20-25K at this point. Your "D" (2005-6) would NOT have been a Mark 1, and thus sells for closer to $15-18K, even in great shape with a Full set.

The 5513's have values all over the bloody place, depending on the vintage, and of course . . . condition is everything, right??

So . . . if you really want a beautiful 5513, then just buy one, and keep your Kermit, because you love it!!

And, BTW, I bought my 5513 from that same Michael Morgan, and it gets head-swivels from other Rolli-admirers, all the time! Hey, good stuff!!

Yep! So here's the deal...I simply bought the 5513. Got a great price. Patina is gorgeous. All original, one owner. 1971 non serif dial. Fat font bezel. It was never touched by Rolex because owner never had any issues with it. It was +30 seconds when tested so I sent it to my watchmaker for an overhaul. Should be back in a week or so.

I own both as well -- and that would be a really tough call, but agree with you, 5513 would be the keeper. Others (even more expensive ones) would go well before these two...
