Got the call from an AD for a Sky-dweller and ended up with...
I had a dream yesterday that my AD will give me a call. The strange thing that he actually called slightly before 10 AM saying that he has a Skydweller in white gold with a black dial. I wanted a black dial but it was either going to be an SD 41 or a Sub. I really liked the skydweller, but it wasn't my first choice.
I went to buy it since I'm leaving Switzerland soon and thought to myself that this could be the last chance ... the problem was that I just didn't see the hands without glasses, even with tilting the watch for legibility, I just couldn't read the time. In low light, it wasn't visible at all. I had a similar experience when buying my DJ41, I could only read the white dial, and that's what I bought. I was naturally disappointed, so I asked to see a few other watches, especially JLC ultra thin moon phase. One of watches I asked for was the Tudor Black Bay 58, which he surprisingly didn't have but instead he got me a few BB's and a few Pelagoses. I didn't like the Pelagos, but the BB in black M79230N-0009 was super legible and refined. I never liked the snowflake hour hand, but in person, it's much nicer. I ended up with the BB!... I've been reading good things about BB's for some time now, especially the accuracy of the new MT 5602/5402, but the snowflake hand and the thickness/heft really put me off. Although I was hoping for SD41 or a SUB in SS I can say that I'm satisfied with the look and feel of the BB 41. It's really a well made watch, it's a bit on the heavy side but nothing my 7.5" can't handle, or so I think. The AD also said that in his opinion it's has one of the best price to value/quality ratio many on this board seem to agree. The whole thing was strange .... but YMMV. Cheers |

Congrats! Best to get something you will actually use I thought they stopped making SkyD in WG. Was it on a leather strap? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for your story. It shows again how important it is to actually see the watch, try it on, and think real-world use. I am deprived of several watch references because I want a date, and the cyclops is still the easiest way to see it, over my Speedy Pro Racing & GS diver.

Congratulations. No point in settling for something you don't really want. Nice that you got something you did want.

If nothing else the BB58 certainly is legible. Congratulations!!! I personally found the SkyD a bit boring so I think you made a great choice!!!

Your checkbook is probably thanking you right about now. And...gasp...did you actually say being able to tell the time on a wrist watch was a factor in your purchase?
Congrats, fantastic watch! |

I just sold my FOIS because it was very hard to read as well. Nothing better than a black dial with white hands! And I really don't care for the SkyD either. I think you made a good choice.

Congrats!!! I know I should like these Tudors more, but I can’t get over the thick hour hand on them. Does the superior lume of the hour hand counter the size issue? Maybe I just need to try one on. Anyway, I can appreciate how well made they are, and am happy you are satisfied with your purchase. Enjoy in good health!!

Thank you all for your good wishes !
Harry-57: I dont know, thats what the salesman said. I didnt check on the web. You're probably right. The DJ41 only has a white gold bezel and only polished center links. Watchwatcher.... It is .. big difference in price... I'm not sure what will happen if a an SD41 pops up soon thpough. I'm from a generation that still looks at a watch, not the date though, so that eased the decision with the BB. S’portEye: thank you ! I didnt like the hands either, but it's nicer in person (i.e., acceptable). On the web it looked, well, hideous, but its nicer when you see it in hand. The nice thing is that its super legible with and without lume. |

With all the hype around the BB58, it's great to see the original 41mm get some love. It's a fantastic, well built watch. And while I recognize it's a bit bulky, I really think the BB works best in the original size.

Thank you all... It is definitely a top-heavy and bulky watch, but it's good quality that is super legible, even at night.
I found that if you tighten the bracelet a bit, it becomes more comfortable to wear. I checked the movement, using the timegrapher app on an iPad and it came out +1.8 s/d. Not bad at all. |
