Incoming - but...
Got the call last Friday - the first incoming of 2020 for me is ironically the BLRO (since there is practically no travel any time in the near future!)
But I think this is the first time where a watch just did not appeal to me in real life. The colors on the bezel is a chameleon - from black to navy to blue. But I am finding the red and blue to be not as vibrant as I prefer - like the blue for the BLNR for example. The red and blue is a bit too faded - the red looks more maroon/wine, for example. Now my friend offered me a straight trade with his black 116520 with APH dial. On one hand, i think that's an excellent trade - But on the other if I let it go this quickly I fear I might regret it. Has anyone ever acquired a piece, not felt it, let it go quickly, to find themselves regretting it much later on? Anyway on to pics! |

If you don’t love it - you either sell it and get a load of cash and buy what you want, put it away as it will be worth a boatload someday, or wait one month a see how you feel then. I would wait a month, there is a reason why you wanted it.

From what I have read, the colors are the way they are because of the process Rolex uses to create the ceramic bezel. Instead of using two pieces, it's made of one piece. Blue and Black by them selves are easy to create, but once you mix the red pigment with the blue, things get difficult. I personally like it, it gives it a more sophisticated look seeing how the colors change due to lighting and how it's just not super vibrant red and blue like on other GMT watches. As with everything, give it a chance and it might grow on you. Based on all the videos out there showing this watch, along with all the talk about how the red looks either to pink or to maroon, and the blue to dark or too violet, this really should come as no surprise to you.
Wear it daily for a while, and see what happens. It's a watch too difficulty to acquire to just let it go so quickly after a long wait. But trading it with a friends watch is probably the way to go, you wouldn't want to get into bad standing with your AD if you flip this watch too quickly and rake in some cash. Either way, congrats on the purchase!

In my experience, I like the BLRO more everyday. Somewhat opposite to the relationship with my Daytonas.

I’d recommend spending a few more weeks (or months) with your BLRO before trading. If you still don’t love it, then trade it (assuming you love the 116520).

I’d hang onto it or try to trade for an earlier version with the brighter bezel. I like the more muted colors of the current bezel, but can appreciate folks wanting the colors to pop more. I got mine in July and have been quite pleased with the watch.

This ^^^
If you’re not feeling after a period of time you can easily move it along and presumably your option to trade for another 520 still exists. I get that the BLRO isn’t for everyone, but it just happens to be my favourite SS reference YMMV |

Keep it for a week and play with it in different lighting then decide.

Also if it’s a friend. See if you can keep the watch side by side to decide.

Three weeks was my fastest trade back. But I usually give myself 6 months with a piece to really live with it before parting ways if it doesn’t click. Trust your gut. If there’s any doubt, don’t do it until you’ve lived with it.

Seems that the new bezel has these darker colors of red and blue. If, your're after a Daytona ,then why not try negotiating for the current reference 116500ln? You would have the modern up to date piece, but it will cost you some more cash on the secondary market. I would want the current Daytona. Otherwise, keep the BLRO. it really is a very desirable and nice watch, and you got it at retail.

Agree with others to keep it for a short while and see if it grows on you.
You now have a bargaining chip to acquire something else that you might like better, like your friends Daytona. Also, consider selling or trading back to your AD. They would appreciate it and ensure you're top of mind for the next in demand piece that you'll inevitably want. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

I wouldn't do the trade, but if you really don't like the BLRO, sell it or trade it.

I would say give it a little more time. It happened the same to me when i first got my pepsi. Hope it would come with the vibrant blue and red color as on the aluminum bezels but it wont happen ever so i ended up getting used to and liking it. give it try, if not, sell it and get something you might like better.

Agree with what most have said. Keep it for a while and see if you bond with it. But if not, then certainly let it go. If it came to that, I would probably trade into a DaytonaC.
Good luck and congratulations. |

I’m in the camp where the colours are just off. I don’t quite understand the hype on this one.

Similar situation. Picked mine up a few weeks ago from the AD. I like it but its getting no wrist time at all and I have tried. Will just hope it grows on me.

Don't rush it, take your time and let it speak to you. Maybe your expectations were very high due to the hype around this piece. There's always time to trade it if you don't want it anymore.

I would make the trade. But I’d give it a little time, (i would personally wait at least a month or more) just to make sure you don’t start bonding with it. If after a month, the feeling is still blah, trade away.

Give it a chance
I agree with everyone - give it some time. When I got mine, I felt the same as you. After giving it some time, I wear it more than my Daytona 116500 Panda.
It's a great watch and very comfortable. If after a few months you feel the same way, then trade with your friend. Best wishes |
