16750 Buyer's Guide
Hi all,
I am looking for advice on buying the Pepsi 16750. Questions --- - is there any dedicated websites sort of like http://www.drsd.com/ for the GMT? - how can i tell if the bezel and dial are still original? how much of a premium should an original bezel and dial command? - how much premium does box and papers cost? - I have heard there are five digit pepsis with cal 3186. How rare are these, and does anyone have an estimate on production #s?

-You can check this one: http://gmtmasterhistory.com/
-Bezel is very difficult to tell. Dial is easier as a replacement will have obvious differences in hour markers, fonts, or even SWISS/SWISS MADE. -How much premium? As much as the seller wants and the buyer is willing to pay! -Last 2 years. These are 16710s. Premium is over 50% or more from the 3185s. |

Place some photos here along with a serial number. This will help determine originality.
There is no price evaluation web site that I've ever seen - at least one that is accurate since too many variables determine price. As far as GMT 16750s go - there are matte dial variations found during the first 4 to 4 1/2 years and then the dials switch to glossy black with gold surround markers. The matte dial variation normally are more expensive than the glossy dial variation. There is plenty of info on gmtforum.com regarding the various GMT models and other vintage information. Here is a thread that compares the various GMT models and discusses pricing from a few years ago posted on the gmtforum.com. https://www.gmtforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=265 Also, check the sales forum there for previous GMT 16750 sales.

16750 Buyer's Guide
I went through this process a couple years ago. I decided I didn’t want another new Rolex (sorry fanboys) I think the new ones are ugly... so I started looking at the older ones, the 16750 was the one for me after looking.
I bought a “ehhh so so” watch and tuned it up. I have spent thousands and lots of time making it right. So I feel comfortable saying this... just ask Springer for one. If he doesn’t have one he may can find one from another forum member. You will get a watch that is “right”, from the start. Not a project. I like projects but it’s a pain. There is a learning curve, and it’s pretty steep. If you have a little extra coin it’s best to buy one that is just right. |
