Rolex 5513 circa 1966

How much would you pay for a Rolex 5513 circa 1966 with the following conditions:

- Comes with original papers (including purchase certificate);

- No box;

- Original owner: N/A;

- Replaced with Rolex certified parts: dial, bezel, hands, and bracelet (receipt N/A);

- Minute hand scratches the crystal;

Saw one for sale locally. Would like to get experts' opinions based on limited info above. I'm a noob to vintage Rolex watches.

*The only watch photo posted by the seller. Am asking for more.

Still not enough info. You’d need to post pics. A ‘66 5513 can range about 5k-30k. This would fall somewhere on the lower end though.

What’s it worth, or what would one pay?
Worth would depend on the sum of its parts.
As for “how much would you pay?” I, personally, wouldn’t pay for one. It’s not a vintage watch, it’s not even correct to a particular year. It’s...an oddity. Sure it’s all Rolex, and some people, I’m sure, wouldn’t mind one, but at the very least, it will be a challenge to sell when the time comes.

Here’s what i do, go to the other vintage sellers and locate 5513s. Look at the range of prices and determine where this falls in line.

It's essentially not a vintage watch anymore, the papers are meaningless. I wouldn't wear it if it was given to me for free, to be honest.

I wouldn't be interested in this watch. But in terms of market value, these Subs with all service parts seem to sell for something in the neighborhood of $8k in no-reserve eBay auctions if they are in very good condition IMO. The photo provided by the OP is not sufficient to judge condition.

An impossible question to answer way too many variables just because it’s got papers doesn’t mean much lots of negatives also.

Got some updated info from the seller:
- Original owner: Yes (his father bought in 1966)
- Circa: 1961 (based on its serial number)
- Hands: Original
- Dial: Original, but refurbished (in 1989)
- Bezel: Replaced
- Bracelet: Replaced (w/ 78360)
- Case back: Laser engraved

Indeed, this is not a complete vintage 5513 watch, with bracelet 78360 being my biggest concern. But, if I were not to look for a 100% vintage 5513 and didn't care about its re-sell value in the future, would it be a worth buy? If yes, how much should I offer?
I'm planning to get either a 7206 or 9315 (or even a 93150) bracelet if I ended up buying the watch, though those bracelets are not cheap. :)

You're funny, the bracelet is the best part of the watch IMO, at least it's fully legit even if not correct for a Sub. What does "laser engraved" mean on the case-back? Do you have a photo of that?

Dan, did you mean this watch does not worth much other than the Rolex 78360 bracelet? :)

Serial number 693xxx
I’m not sure which bracelet it was original equipped with, 7206 or 9315, or something else.

Could be either for the bracelet I think. What are the endlinks?

That serial number is for 1960 or 61. I think you're about 1m off for a 1.6 which puts you in 1967 which is closer to your est of 1966.

There are no numbers on the end links. Might be some aftermarkets.

It is 1966 on the purchase certificate, but the serial number referenced to 1960 or 1961 as you mentioned.

Come back when you’ve received the pics you requested from the seller yesterday. Would like to see what you’ve described.

Unless you know and trust this seller, don’t let your guard down for a fetching story. The replica forums are full of artful dodgers who craft cagey stories to lower the guard of their marks.

Hopefully this isn’t the case and you’ll get this one for a restoration project.

Wouldn't pay anything for it with all replacement parts. You'll never be able to sell it if you decide to move on.

Do more research, learn what you need to learn, find a better one and then pull the trigger.

Great advice. Same as all others that chimed in.

I guess what it’s worth really depends on what you’re looking for, and how much you’re going to spend on a vintage watch like this.
Would you pay $5k for this 5513 that comes with a paper with matching serials number, tho bracelet is not original (but a genuine 78360 instead) and the dial has been refurbished (re-lumed)?

If you get good enough photos to really determine what is legit and what is not, I suppose you could calculate value as parts. But that's purely a financial calculation. The more I see of this watch, the less I like it. It's not appealing, and I don't think it would give me any joy to own it.

That watch is definitely not from 1966

That watch is from 1961 it's a PCG case. This is one of the FIRST 5513's ever made.

It predates the 1962 release.

I'd be interested in it for resto.

The sales receipt just means the watch sat on the shelf for years before it was sold.

Thanks, guys.
With a bit more researching, including seeing those (1960 to 1962) for sale on C24, I'm intrigued in pulling the trigger on this 5513. Reason being that I could get to check and see the watch in person, talk to the seller about its history (his father bought the watch in Lucerne Swiss in 1966), and receive a Rolex paper (purchase certificate dated in 1966) with a matching serial number. This is beyond buying a random 5513 from online without knowing any background of the watch in my opinion, though conditions may vary. With a 5513 in this age, parts can be replaced throughout the years, especially when serviced at RSC.
My plan is to get a 9315 bracelet with 380 end links to go with the watch, and send it in for service.

The watch is worth the sum of its parts. The most valuable part is the case and papers that match the serial. I would verify the papers are legit if your going to buy it.

Not a consideration. There are plenty of trusted online dealers who lots of us have bought from and continue to buy from. You can find something much better than this and buy in confidence.

Don't rush in. Vintage takes time.

If you're a serious buyer, contact Michael at Rolliworks and inquire about this 1970 5512 Submariner below that Michael has for sale. It's a very good friend of mine who owns the watch and Rolliworks did the restoration. Below is a photo of the 5512 after the restoration.
