My New (Old) Air King
Folks, interested in your observations of my 1980 (6,507,xxx) Air King, ref. 5500.
T'was as authentic as I could discern and keeps perfect time. This is my first Air King, and I'm pleased so far (I think). Any concerns for originality or "disingenuousness?" Perhaps a better picture? Best regards, Joe_Rolex |

The dial has been washed. It is missing the PRECISION above the 6 marker. Looks like it may be missing some lume plots too. And the lume being black could be water immersion.

While an object itself can’t be disingenuous, one could say that if the seller claimed the watch dial was unaltered, then he was being disingenuous!

Fellas, much appreciated. Aside from my poetic license and improper prose, it’s noteworthy that my first observation was the lack of the word “PRECISION” above the 6 position. A colleague then directed me to a Rolex reference which states that the Air King run saw two different movements; the 1520 (with 17 or 26 jewels) and the 1530 (with 17, 25 or 26 jewels). It further explained that, while the 1530 movement always had “SUPER PRECISION” above the 6 o’clock position, the 1520 had either “PRECISION” or no text at all.
For your edification. Thank you, gentlemen, for taking a look. |
