2008 Sub vs 2009 Sub, worth the wait ?

Hi
I have a GMT II and now need a Blue Sub. I see the new 2009 model has some updates, ceramic bezel, new clasp ? etc or am I wrong? What are your feelings, is it worth it to wait till October 2009 for the new model? Is the new one technically an improved watch?

I bought the current model in an 'M' a few months ago and I don't regret the decision.
Any guess on the price for the new model.

Well its all according what you class as a new model by adding say a ceramic bezel or clasp don't make it a new model.Just a updated old one, the main thing in all watches the movement has not changed, the others just purely cosmetic changes.

On Friday I was lucky enough to see the new blue/gold sub side by side with the 16613 TT Blue Sub in a local shop so that I could really compare the colours of the dial and bezel. I had my wife and eldest son with me and independently they both prefered the appearance of the older model. As you move your head from side to side the dial on the older model shimmers whereas the new dial appears "flat" in comparison. The older blue is a richer colour whereas in some lights the term "smurf" blue is a pretty good description. By the way the latest M or V serial numbers on the older model have a paler/brighter blue than the early models, I prefer this brighter blue.
I played with what is maybe the new clasp as seen on a GMT IIC and that is certainly more substantial than the older model.
Maybe if you buy the very latest serial number it will have the Parachrom hairspring inside but who knows without opening the watch.
On balance, I prefer the older 16613 watch.

No. I prefer the "classic" 16610. And I would not want to pay the higher price for the new Sub.

Plus you can expect a good $1000USD at least on top of the current price of the 16613, and I would doubt any discounting for the first few months.

Bezel
Case
Clasp
Bracelet
Maxi Dial
AR coating on the cyclops

Cosmetic and functional, but a different watch to the current 16613.

It will be interesting to see how the new model affects the value of the 16610LV. If they do discontinue the 16610LV when the new larger case and ceracrom bezel watches launch the LV will be the most limited run of watches Rolex have ever made. 2003 to 2009 6 years. This in mind will the LV become a future classic (20 years down the line that is)? I think it will do, but you never know with Rolex. They may still run the LV side by side with the newer models?!?!?!?

J

Ignore much of what I have said, I am referencing the SS Sub, not yet been seen but I think we all know where it will be going.

For me looks are just as important to function, and to me the new TT Blue Sub does not hold a candle to the current TT Blue 16613 Sub, the new black TT model is a diferent story! I would guess to add another $1500-2000 to the price of the current MSRP for the new 116613 TT Sub.

The only thing I like about it is the new guild lock clasp other then that Rolex is going with the times with all the ceramic and big watch cases as seen in the new 41 MM date just but that is another thread.

Thanks, in reply to an above note. I am awaiting a quote for the new model, scheduled to be in Canada October 2009. I will post it when I get it. Based on all of the above info, it will be a tough choice, but I do like some of the new updates, am leaning towards the 2009 model. Thanks for all the inputs, very helpfull for my first day on the site!
