New Rolex sub vs Pepsi hype?

Have the new subs generated as much excitement as the Pepsi when they were first released a couple of years ago.? I called my AD and asked if he had been getting a lot of calls and he replied, “a few but it’s still really early”. I have been waiting for a pepsi for 3 years. I asked for the Kermit and he actually sounded like he was going to come through this time. Do people not care for the case size change or color scheme? I personally prefer the older sub cases.

Dont think the kermit will amass the pepsi hype but it is very early.

I don't think so. At least around my circle of watch friends no one is incredibly excited.

New Rolex releases always have a honeymoon period of high demand. Old timers will remember the frenzy when the SS/Plat Yachtmaster and Milgauss came out years ago. I believe the new Subs will be crazy for a short period but will go back to just "it's hard to get because it's an SS Professional model."
Historically SS Daytonas have had staying power for 30 years. The BLRO still being hot after two years is greater than most, time will tell if it lasts.

Not close by any means imo. Spoke to 2 ADs in my area and both said the same thing, only a couple of guys have inquired when it will get in but no one has asked to be put on a list.

The hulk didn’t get much hype either because I remember them sitting on cases and some reps were even pushing me to purchase it.

The new 40mm GMT’s just went up after the news. The 40mm fans will move over to the GMT line a lot more now. The new Sub is suppose to be made in even higher volume according to Govberg.

The supply part doesn't surprise me, hence all of them sharing the same dial. Or even in the case of the bluesy, now the same stamping. That's why I am not a fan of this move, it was ingenious from Rolex though. Give the people something new, but make it as cost-effective to produce as possible. The margins just increased on their side.

Also super happy I got my BLRO when I did. Couldn't stand a 41mm variant. .

It was a different era. It wasn't like it is today. Smaller communities, no social media, mostly only enthusiasts whom were older etc.
I think people in other communities, e.g. WUS, were bemused by the rare offering of a green sub. No one knew what to make of it at the time.

I long for those days, TBH. The hype/social media stuff doesn't do it for me. I miss talking with super knowledgeable people whom knew all the intricacies, not just the retail values.

I miss the days of stepping into an AD while traveling and seeing 3 Hulks on display as well as numerous Subs and probably 1-2 BLNRs alongside excited sales staff.

Pepsi has certainly been the hardest to acquire and most sustained hype from my view. Still waiting for that call... only stainless piece I'm missing outside of the new releases now.

the average bloke doesnt give 2 you know whats about 1 mm.

the sub will sell. the trf hype is less because of traditionalist dissent over 1 mm. overall i bet demand is actually higher for the sub than the gmt blro.

Size wise, in another thread they said the case was like literally only .2 mm bigger when measured...so yeah thats going to be out the window for people saying it's too big lol.

I just wish the BLRO had the option of coming with an oyster bracelet. It took me a long time to get used to the PCL on my GMT... I just don’t think I could handle the bling of the jubilee.

My SA at the boutique told me that a lot of people are asking for new Green Sub. C.

I have the Hulk but I still want a new green Sub too.

Actually the old Sub 126610 LV Hulk is the one generating the excitement this time.

I miss this because I would HIGHLY prefer buying my timepiece on travel. It’s an extra memory.

Not even close to the Pepsi from what I’ve been told. And normal black dial subs? Practically zero new interest than what was already on a list. The only thing with demand is the Kermit.

I remember when the original Kermit came out, nobody liked it. The consensus on TimeZone at the time was that it was ugly. I checked it out and agreed, I wasn’t a fan and I’m still not. The Hulk wasn’t hyped either, some liked it, some didn’t.

But like others have said, it was a different time, “hype” didn’t exist the way it does today.

I totally agree with this comment. Everything is more hyped now. I see it with things like trainers where the value of them has reach insane levels. Some trainers are now worth 10/20 times their retail. All because of social media hype, influencers I feel.

The new 40mm GMTs wear almost perfect in my opinion. I have faith however, that the new Subs may wear fairly well after shaving the lugs.

Today many buy into the hype to wear the hype instead of wearing the watch they want to own and wear.

As I remember, the noise generated by the SS Pepsi was an order of magnitude greater than what happened here this week. Although memory can be unreliable.

What is also different is the apparent tone of a large proportion of the comments. The Pepsi generated all kinds of noise but a lot of it was positive and admiring. There seems to be a lot of negative noise this week and much complaining. Could be the watches, could be the shift in buyer wants and expectations, could be different people now in the mix.
